ASUS's RT-N13U router wants to make your life as EZ as possible
This latest WiFi router from ASUS might not move the goalposts in terms of specs -- 802.11b/g/n wireless, one USB 2.0 and four LAN outputs -- but its big selling point, according to the company, is the management software contained within. The EZ UI is back again, along with EZ QoS, an app for prioritizing bandwidth, and EZ All-in-One Printer sharing, which lets you run a networked printer without the help of a server. Add that to the ability to download without a PC, but with some storage device, plugged in, and you've got a pretty well automated piece of kit. It's already available in Canada for 85 of their Dollars ($77), and we've even tracked down a praise-filled early review for your delectation. Have at it.

Update: Our keen-eyed readers have spotted Newegg is now selling these routers in the US for $60 plus shipping (Thanks, Ghost_MH).

More like WiiZ, amirite gaiz?
Stop degrading the forum.
Are custom firmware's supported?
It would probably take some time before the DDWRT team got this one on the site, they tend to go for the more common ones, and seeming how this isnt US quite yet, give it some time.
Openwrt will be available for it first - that is if it runs Linux.
Do want! I can't wait to throw my POS D-link out the window.
Also since you know how much it costs... where can I get it?
The answer, of course, is NCIX.

That's really, really temping...And I wasn't really in the market for replacing my N router. The lack of Gigabit Ethernet is a downer, however.
Downloads without a PC? Is it a BitTorrent client? Does this mean you can just plug in a USB drive and this becomes like a NAS?
wow. those were the exact questions I had in mind when I read this. are you some kind of mind reader ? or is it just engadget lacking the specs in this article ?

Two killer USB features but only one USB port; almost perfect...
4-port USB hub to the rescue?
But will it recognise the additional connected items that way?
You can use a hub, but it's not officially supported by ASUS. It also introduces a significant problem in that the ASUS web interface will only report the details on one hard drive. This is an issue because you can't tell how much free space you have left on each drive.
I've only tried this with multiple drives--not a drive and a printer at the same time (yet).
I have read the review of this router and that of the Asus WL-500W. Could someone please enlighten me on a few question I have,
1. In the Asus RT-N13U router, the software allows you to make the router function as a repeater. Is the same functionality available on the Asus WL-500W??
2. In the Asus WL-500W, you can plug a USB 2.0 external hard drive and access it from any computer connected to the router. Is this possible in the Asus RT-N13U router??
Thanks.
Regards
To answer your second question: Yes.

I bought this router based on this very post. It proved to be very flaky for me and I was unable to set it up for secure operation. Asus' online support is a joke and their tech support phone number was a fax line and their fax line was disconnected. Waaay too much hassle. I sent it back.
