It looks hard to believe it'll have full magnification of prism to be placed in there.
Full magnification viewfinder = no flash... !?! no? ain't I right?

anyhow, it'll probably be a match to sony 850 rather then 5 MKII replacement.

Let me list few things I want in dSLR.
-Full frame (just like 35mm film camera)
-Good lens support (canon has 'GOOD' but not a really good selection with MF and afforability PENTAX/SONY maybe NIKON will be better choice)
-100% viewing view finder
-Nice retro looking body
-good grip w/ enough weight.
-Professional control.
-No video.

I do think the power switch on the mode dial is interesting, this is something Canon does on their Rebel cameras. The power switch on their higher end cameras has been right next to the LCD for around a decade. Perhaps making room for a bigger LCD?

this is not a 7D top cap. But a good looking one. Pro's would rarely ever use that flash, and if you're in the market for a camera of that price you've already got at least one or 2 580's or don't want a flash.

OOO, maybe. Looks nice. The power switch is interesting. I really don't care that much, but I like the LCD. I rarely turn off my 30D. It just sleeps.

I think they better announce this next week and start shipping out a lot of cameras. I am in the market for a 5D mark 2 and need it by October, but most of the stores don't have a large inventory of them. The only reason I am waiting is to see what they are going to come out with and see if it has a new 21 MP+ FF sensor or something else that would be better than the 5D mark 2, but not break the bank like the 1D series would do.

Also, I am really hoping they will come out with a 24-105mm f/2.8 IS lens that is razor sharp.

Also, ergonomics are kind of personal and I've found the 5D and 5D II to be the favorite cameras to have in my hand, especially with a 16-35. :) I wish I had one!

Perhaps it's a mode that allows you to control the mirror? So instead of taking multiple frames by holding down the shutter button, it keeps the shutter open as long as you hold it down.

Like the 5D there are no "Creative Controls" on the exposure dial. That means it is not likely to be a replacement for the 50D.
2. The top appears somewhat deeper than a 50D (note the diopter control.) Perfect for a bigger prism.
3. Placing the on-off switch on the exposure dial frees up space for a either an articulated LCD or for a larger mirror prism (a must for a full-frame.)
4. Canon never wastes a good sensor. The original 5D sensor is great - why waste it!

My bet is on a new, cheaper full-frame...

In all seriousness, though, as a Nikon shooter, this hypothetical move by Canon seems to make the most sense to me. The Nikon D700 is an amazing camera, and the 5D MkII falls short of it in a few potentially important ways (build quality, lens compatibility, long exposure performance, weather sealing, flash with commander mode, extremely high ISO, etc).
