The PS2 has 10 titles coming out thus far for 2010.
The PS2 has a library of over 1800 titles - games that are still in virtually all electronic store shelves.

Isn't Sony wasting money manufacturing and supporting maintanence for PS2's?

Why not just manufacture PS3's instead with software emulation?

To the best of my knowledge "PS3 slim" is not the official name for this, it's just the new Playstation 3. And for that matter, the "PS2 slim" is not an official name either. "Slim" is simply a word people use to differentiate this new model from the previous one; it's relative. Considering how long it took for the revised versions of the PS and PS2 to come along after their originals, you can hardly call the new PS3 an insult to the PSone or new PS2. Don't you get it, you are buying a ps3 to play ps3 games, not ps2 games, thats why it is called a PS3! Thats like saying "well, i was gunna buy a Ferrari, but since they dont offer it with a little powerless four cylinder I dont want it". Makes no sense does it? Besides, it seems like you already have a working ps2 anyways so if all you were gunna do is play ps2 games, wouldnt that just be a waste of $300? Btw, no it's not going to handle audio any differently. There is no difference anyways besides the fact that the PS3 is handling the decoding instead of the receiver.

Back on topic, no surprise hearing this. I had a great stack of classic Xbox games like GTA 3 and Vice City..Halo etc but once i got the 360 they were relegated to the back of the cupboard.

Its funny how Sony keep stripping down the PS3..now its just a shadow of what it was back in 2006. The PS3 needs to dramatically cut costs to compete in rpice with the other consoles. Its obvious that nobody wanted a "premium" console.

The Wii on the other hand is different. Its library is terrible. I had to resort to buying Gamecube games. I think i played the Gamecube games more often than the Wii games. Of course, whilst PS2 hardware sales continue to really keep the Playstation division going, I doubt Sony are going to think about discontinuing it. They also mentioned numerous times before that they see the PS2s lifetime continuing for a while yet. Sony was one of the FIRST console manufacture to learn that Backward Compatibility sold more consoles than ones without the feature because loyalist tend to have the previously model and didn't want to loose use of older titles.

Considering what's possible with electronics today, there's no excuse not to include it unless you want to force your user base to play only PS3 and then sell you old PS1 titles on PSN which is what Sony is doing. There aren't enough games on the PS3 STILL that I want to play badly enough.

I currently play PRD2/3, GT4, DUB Edition Remix and doing GTA in order, finished GTA3 about 6 months ago.

I would still play those....even if I bought a PS3 Slim without that feature.
