Samsung Instinct HD spotted in the wild, powered on

We've already seen one exceedingly blurry image of Samsung's Sprint-bound Instinct HD, and one seemingly official image courtesy of Best Buy, but Phone Arena has now gotten its hands on what looks to be the most complete set of pics to date. That includes a peek at the phone's mostly familiar-looking interface, a quick comparison with some of its predecessors, and a look at some curiously repositioned Sprint and Samsung logos, which now match the Instinct S30 (whatever that may signify). Hit up the link below to check out the whole set for yourself.

Pre ripoff
How is it a Pre ripoff? It doesn't have a physical qwerty keyboard, can't run simultaneous apps, and is in general a completely different form factor.
Do you mean it's a ripoff because it's a phone with a touchscreen?
@cocoviper
If it looks like a Palm Pre... it looks like a Palm Pre; it really is that simple.
No it looks like a cell phone now stop whining and buy your Pre if you care about looks so much.
Looks like a pre no doubt. If it didn't look like a pre then people wouldn't say it.
I'd agree with you, but if you look at some of the other shots (the ones taken in full light) it doesn't totally look like a pre ripoff.
Ripoff may be a tad harsh, but no doubt, it looks like a Pre, and Why not, the pre is a beautiful phone.
It's angled a little differently in some parts, but I'll still throw in another vote for a similar to Pre design.
Its still fugly, no matter what you call it.
sprint now has two pre's.
Samsung Instinct HPre
Oh cool a new palm pre
If this hardware ends up solid, let's port WebOS over and we can finally have a proper Pre!
Kill it, kill it with urine!
kill it with pree
C-C-C-Combo breaker!
Jarate!
its got wings.
No different than what sprint has PREviously offered
Total Pre wanna-be. Nice try!
So to recap: If it has rounded corners, it's an iPhone ripoff. Curved sides, Pre ripoff. Everyone got that?
yes indeed sir, yes indeed!
Chin = G1 Ripoff
yes, if you are completely unwilling to recognize blatant design rip-offs and would prefer to only see the very broad similarities and ignore the obvious similarities that are much more specific, go right ahead. the rest of us will call a duck a duck.
I mean COME ON! I thought it was a pre at first.
Why does anyone care about these phones with no real OS on them?
iPhone theme in 3... 2... 1...
Hmmm, looks like a Pre but a but longer with gross chrome trim. And I like the use of Apple's wallpaper. Not that apple owns the fish wallpaper, but it's a bit odd to be using the same wallpaper that comes stock with every iPhone and Mac Computer. The interface looks the same though, a little nicer but nothing to be excited about. The only good part about this phone is the HD video. I think samsung has been trying too hard to throw everything in their phones at once instead of perfecting what is already good. The iPhone is known for it's interface, the pre for amazing
multitasking, and Hero for making android pretty and useful. What will this be known for? I'm guessing Samsung will release thus and then make a better phone next month, release that, and continue their product cycles.
Why is Mr. Blurrycam so ubiquitous? Don't you think if you had exclusive access to an unreleased device you would take the best picture you possibly could, even with a crappy camera phone? What the hell is wrong with these people? Do they go into convulsions over the excitement of getting exclusive images of a gadget when they hold the camera? Are security guards right around the corner so they must snap a quick photo?? Please stop the blurry madness!
glad to see samsung getting off the iphone's nuts and onto someone else's. i'm also glad to see that people fail to recognize a blatant design rip-off "what, because it's got a touch-screen and it's a phone?" even when we're talking about another company other than apple. their blind defense mechanisms are nothing if not consistent.
You also replied to my comment with the same thing. Care to elaborate on what "blatant design ripoffs" this has, other than having features common to every touchscreen phone, and being kind of similarly shaped to the Pre?
Didn't think so.
No full-featured OS, no accelerometer, no want.
Imagine if this was running Android wow 5MP with HDMI out and HD recording tied in with Android wow but yeah this is going to be a fail like the first Instinct there probaly going to spend 100 MILLION dollars on advertisement's and rival it against the iPhone again i think I will stick with my Pre
A little WinMo 7 would be awesome.
Maybe it needs to be WinMo HD in order to qualify as awesome?
Samsung Instinct Hyper Dumb
There has got to be software out there that de-blurs images by deleting duplicate exposures..
Only in movieland
Shame on Samsung. I liked you, but I think I should dislike you from now on.
I do not think it looks like a Pre-rip off at all. All the haters need to drink more of the iphone koolaid. This phone packs an HD recording capability which makes videos look beautiful. take that iphone brainwashed koolaid drinking sycophants.
Hopefully the instinct HD video will look similar to the Omnia HD. And Samsung does need either a dedicated software team, or jump on the Android Bandwagon. Because the i7500 Galaxy is very smooth.
The I wonder if the phone will be AMOLED? That display blows the other phones out of the water.
First glance I thought that was the Pre. Whoa!
I'd argue that the Real OS argument is no longer valid. This is from Phonenews.com:

Instinct HD Preview: Sprint Titan Loaded, Opera Mobile Deal Exclusive

BREW, Java (J2ME), Samsung, Sprint
PhoneNews.com has the full scoop on what to expect from the Instinct HD.
First and foremost, the Instinct HD will expand on Sprint’s Opera Mini-bundling in the Instinct S30. Opera Mobile will become the standard browser, operating inside the Instinct HD’s BREW environment. This is the first time Opera Mobile has been the default browser on a Sprint non-smartphone, and appears to be the rumored widespread integration deal that Opera rumored in July. Instinct HD will be Sprint’s flagship non-smartphone through the end of the year, and Sprint’s hybrid BREW/Java platform is gaining in traction on other devices.
In addition to a powerful BREW-based browser, Instinct HD will get a significant Java upgrade. With a model number of SPH-M850, it will be the first non-smartphone to feature Sprint’s Titan application platform. Titan replaces the aging J2ME CLDC profile with a custom CDC-based platform. CDC is a more powerful version of Java, originally meant for smartphones, but failed to get traction there. Only Symbian UIQ included full support for the CDC profile. Now, Sprint is poised to revive it as an app platform for non-smartphones, which can scale up to both Android and Windows Mobile phones.
Titan, as we first reported, will deliver smartphone-grade application platforms across the entire Sprint phone lineup.
Finally, most interesting, will be the integration between these two advances. Applications using Titan will be able to leverage the Opera Mobile browser as their HTML renderer. This will enable impressive on-device widgets and web-driven applications, similar to how Palm’s webOS offers application interactivity.
The interface will continue to mimic the Instinct (S30) interface, but will have additional media player enhancements to support on-device sync and HD (with HDMI) video output. This is a far cry from the meager Sprint Music Store playback support in the original Instinct, as well as take advantage of Wi-Fi in the device.
This news comes as PhoneNews.com was vindicated by external testers for our previous exclusive report which exposed that iPhone 3GS is capable of up to 1080p HD playback. Many criticized PhoneNews.com for reporting that the iPhone 3GS’s video hardware would support HD playback. Apple is poised to enable such playback upon the launch of forthcoming iPod touch models, which feature the same PowerVR chipset, enabling HD output across both iPhone 3GS and iPod touch. The change will also strike the discontinuation of the 8GB iPhone 3G, as multiple sources have reported will be replaced with a 3GS variant.
First off, this comment will probably end up nowhere near it's intended target, but here goes.
Actually, it does have an accelerometer and the OS is something more robust than the previous model and S30 variants. You can read about it here: http://www.phonenews.com/instinct-hd-preview-sprint-titan-loaded-opera-mobile-deal-samsung-8760/#comments
What you are seeing is merely a skin over the OS. A user interface much like HTC's Sense(for Android) or TouchFlo(for WinMo) or Samsung's native Touchwiz(for WinMo and Java OS's).
To be completely honest, before I read the headline and noticed the Samsung logo, I actually thought this was some sort of new Palm Pre. Design wise, this is about as much a palm pre rip off as the new creative zii is an iPhone rip off.
Ok, I am racking my brain trying to figure out if that is an actual FLASH on this InstnctHD. The pictures I've seen aren't clear enough to make a definative yes or no. Does anybody know for sure if this is a flash for the camera?
yep
Here is a video of the Samsung Instinct HD

I just traded my old palm Centro in for this phone and hate it. I want my centro back. You can't personalize this phone without going to sprints web site to pay for their ringtones or screesavers. You cant calibrate the touch screen. The only thing I can transfer from my computer to the phone are songs to play on its media player. I am taking this phone back to sprint today to get something else. It's like sprint is going backward in the design of their phones. As far as it looking like a Palm Pre, "no way". The Pre looks nothing like this.
