Keepin' it real fake, part CCXXXIV: JXD1000 PSP clone has no UMD drive, shame
Sony may or may not have given up on the UMD format, but it's safe to say that KIRFsters never really got on board in the first place. There's a long and storied line of PSP knockoffs, and none have had room for little spinny discs. This latest one doesn't either, but it will play 720p video in a slew of formats, serve up game ROMs in a variety of flavors, tune in FM radio, and take two megapixel pictures. It sports a 4.3-inch, 480 x 272 screen, which won't do much justice to those 720p vids, but with only 8GB of storage there's not much room for high-def content anyway. Just $88 gets you one, but if you order 15 you can save a whole buck!

No UMD =/= shame, in fact, it might = win actually.
Move over POOP Station, there is a new player in the house!!!
Headline reading comprehension fail.
You saw:
"JXD1000 PSP clone has no UMD drive, (what a) shame."
Headline convention, however:
"JXD1000 PSP clone has no UMD drive (or) shame."
As in a real newspaper might have on the front page:
"U.S Army Spends $500B On New Carriers, Airplanes"
LoL @ "GamePlayer"
no.... seriously?
It's not actually 720p, the site says:
TV-OUT Support, resolution 720*480
But it doesn't seem that bad, could be great for emulating stuff on the go.
So does the GamePlayer play games?
lol, creative isn´t it ??
what´s next callPhone ?
Considering SNES, NES, and other ROMs offer more variety and entertainment than a good majority of all the PSP games I've played, $88 seems like a steal. This would be great for roadtrips and it's cheaper than getting a DS or something and modding it. I just have to wonder what kind of battery life it has.
SNES emulation has always been notoriously slow on most KIRFs so when you find one that isn't junk, let me know.
You might want to get out from under that rock and join the homebrew scene. I've been playing NES, SNES, even GBA games on my PSP for years.
@Ari - True, but that would require money and work, two things I have already spent on other, more useful, gadgets.
Fake Edit- Ok I checked Amazon and used 2000's are like, $105. I can afford that. I take back all of my comments about how this piece of junk could be useful in any possible way.
Yeah I mean the PSP is the most convenient portable ever. Considering I can easily find ROMS for all 8/16bit stuff I own, the emulators are 100% or near 100% in speed, and I can go to GameStop, get used PSP UMDs for next to nothing, use a util and rip my own games directly to memory card, AND rip my own PS1 games directly to card. A whole library on a $67 16GB MSPD. I paid $170 for a PSP3k (interlacing be damned, I wanted new), and $67 for the MSPD. And I have a whole collection, no switching discs/cards for $240. I'd take it any day over this thing.
And whoever said it's hard or time consuming, I call BS. All you need is 5.03 firmware, ChickHEN 5.03, GEN-A Installer-Loader, and you're ready to go, without pirating even. That'll take you 10-15 mins via Google, MAX. I've never have ChickHEN or GEN-A fail to load on the first time EVER.
I wonder how this would compare to more "established" handheld emulation machines like the Dingoo or GP2X Wiz?
don't ask me why i keep looking at it and thinking it looks like an atari lynx.

Is it me or does the source of the Sony's inspiration for the PSPgo, look like this - http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/17/keepin-it-real-fake-part-lvii-ultimate-knockoff-phone-rips-fo/
So this is the 234th Keepin' it real fake.
still nicer than the PSPGo
If only companies saw what people actually want from their products. This is a good example, and so is every single iPod knockoff having a radio.
GAMEPLAYER ?? DAMN THAT´S WHAT I CALL A CRATIVE NAME
that's actually a nice find for an audio/video player that can emulate and has 8 gigs of storage.
Original PSP was about the best video game machine investment I've made in a long time. Funny thing is, I haven't used that UMD drive in over 2 years. Gotta love hackers!
KIRF or not, it's still a better bargain than the PSP Go.
"It sports a 4.3-inch, 480 x 272 screen, which won't do much justice to those 720p vids..."
-----------
I found this line curious. Which portable can do justice to 720p on its screen? The specs in this department are exactly the same as the PSP.
Format RMVB、RM、AVI、VOB、DAT、MPG、FLV, directly playback DVD/ VCD files
Format MP3、WMA、WAV、AAC、 FLAC、APE
Seems to put Sony's format support to shame, too...though they are a little vague on the specifics on the video bits and it's anyone's guess how it all comes together in practice.
