Let's take the video posted in the article for example. Look closely at the pillars and other vertical edges and see how they become diagonal instead of straight vertical. In fact, the whole store appears skewed (one way, then the other way).

CCD sensors don't exhibit this effect due to having 'global shutters'. How much was the regular D300 when it first came out?

You're getting a D300s with *more* features for the same price as the old D300... (even if you don't want the new features)

Progress man... it's tough to stop.

IF the video on Nikon's DSLRs was any good... I doubt it would be a problem. People *love* the video on the 5D Mk II. Those that don't need it simply don't use it. Video doesn't hurt the 5D Mk II.

But, Canon is NOT going to make two models... 5D Mk II -and- and 5D Mk II with Video.

And neither would Nikon. More efficient batteries? That's progress too.
Faster burst rate? You guessed it, progress.
Unbelievably clean shots at high ISO? Take a wild guess.

A video mode? Now THAT's a shitty attempt at convergence.

Canon, Nikon and for that matter, none of the major players should forget that their PRIMARY customer base consists of PHOTOGRAPHERS who aren't too keen to pay for features that aren't related to PHOTOGRAPHY. It's quite alright that they're looking for some extra sales, but offer us the same camera without video. Much like how Ferrari offers a stripped down Scuderia version for people who use their cars for the intended purpose rather than as a prop to score some.
