I was wondering about that. Since the 5D Mark II came out not too long ago I couldn't imagine they were replacing it already. Like many others labeling DSLR's as "poor" for photography, they quickly forget that most compensate for rolling shutter, and most have optics that would put a $6,000 Dedicated video setup to shame. I honestly hate the barrage of naysayers on here. And for all those whiners that talk about too many mp. That's what the SRAW's are for! I can't see why anyone would need less detail in their shots. Also they mention how there is a new AF system based on the 19 af point 1d and a new sensor that has great low light handling.

If this camera lands for under 2000$ (getting ready for the hate)

I still feel that *outside of the video* there isn't very much being offered in these new cameras that couldn't be found on the older models at much less cost i.e. there is a premium being asked for video which people only interested in still photography might be well advised not to pay...

there is a future in all types of sensor sizes because they all serve different purposes... but the only way to keep making giant steps is to keep upping the sensor size.... i would love a 5000mp/gigapixle large format camera that you can focus then take landscape shot and see detail on the trees in the background haha.....pointless as that sounds imaging it in advertising a billboard thats rests at its native dpi and res :D

BTW - I just installed the last 'video' firmware and I'm really enjoying it, the shutter speed and ISO in particular.

There are tons of videographers/directors shooting shorts, music videos, tv ads, and soon probably feature films on their 5D Mk II. I've seen photojournalists using the video features too.

Also have a look at http://vimeo.com/5981422 You can see a video shot with a Panasonic GH1, a 5D Mk II and a Red One (which is used for motion pictures, e.g. Steven Soderbergh shot Ché with it). You can hardly see a difference between the cameras. If you'd mix in a professional VIDEO camera you could definitely see the difference, unless you use a 35mm converter box, and I doubt the image quality will be as good with the video camera. You can't prevent the progression of technology and cross-fertilisation of features, all video does is provide additional flexibilty to a photographers arsenal. If you choose not to use it, fine, but those with the creativity to realise the potential of new features will take photography/videography into new realms. Video shooting on DSLR's have their own unique positives and negatives, if you are aware of the limitations you can work around them and use your camera to show the world around us in a new light.

I am a still photographer, so I use my dSLR to take pictures not my Sony hd camcorder, thats used for video, because it the right tool for that job.
