One small issue is that the Clear signal is a bit unpredictable; I will get 8Mbps for a few days and then it drops down to 2Mbps. If I move the modem about 4 feet, it is back up to 8Mbps. And a few day later I need to move the modem back to its original position as the speed has flipped again...

Clear is absolutely not for gaming. Also there is a 4G/3G device sold and provisioned by Clearwire. It runs 4G when wimax is available and on Sprints EV-DO network when only 3G is available. I'd consider a Samsung Mondi, but without 3G, or even 2G for that matter, it's a no-go.
