But obviously most companies think Tegra is ready for the market. I don't think Apple would want to be left behind and two weeks from now see headline like "New Zune HD Beats the Living Shit Out of New iPod Touch".

The 3GS's CPU is around twice as powerful as a Tegra.

What nVidia call "processors" are simply lots of functional blocks in the chip that everybody else has too.

It's got an audio CODEC - wow, that's a processor! It's got a 2D graphics controller - wow, that's a core too! Do you seriously think that the other SoCs don't have these or is it just marketing spin by people who want to sell you a chip?

Looking at the Samsung SoC in the 3GS and qualify it by the same standards nVidia use, you'll find it has 10 processors. The TI OMAP3 in the Pre and the N900 too. Count them:

1) Cortex A8 CPU
2) NEON DSP
3) SGX 3D Graphics
4) 2D Graphics
5) Vector Graphics accelerator
6) Video encoder
7) Video decoder
8) JPEG accelerator
9) Audio processor
10) Cryptographic accelerator

It also has more memory bandwidth, which is often a limiting feature to performance, as it uses DDR2.
