It is using a resistive screen but seems pretty responsive for running not final software. People using Maemo 4 was able to get OpenOffice(but slow) to run on slower hardware. From the video that is out currently there already seems to be some bitorrent client. The N900 using Nokia's BL-5J battery at 1320 mAh but the BL-5J can be found cheaply (around $10 ebay, etc.) and is user swappable. Maemo 5, like the Maemo before it also supports software keyboard on the screen along with it hardware keyboard. The N900 does not have a digital compass. The browser is not WebKit base but Mozilla base with full Flash 9.4. Will have native support for a bunch of codec so no need to do video conversions. Uses standard mini-usb for charging and data transfers. So far this phone is looking pretty good for me and I would pre-order it but I was burnt so badly by my HTC Tilt that I think I'll wait till a little while after release.

wickeddeus

Comments on Video: Nokia N900 used to control British art installation

yo I may be so drunk right now but Nokia finally rocked it. My personal favorite as to why capacitive sux, well when you have a full blown OS you may want to run an image editor, ever tried doing that with you finger, its a bit like painting a picture with your elbow.

Richard

Comments on Video: Nokia N900 used to control British art installation

Richard, are you stupid? I don't need to type out an accounting statement, but it still rocks the box that you can view office files and manipulate them. Part of me wishes it used a faster processor (Snapdragon or a tegra base, Nvidia rocks), but this current setup has proven capable on the 3GS for just about everything, since I couldn't care less about 1080P on a phone, however, Nokia's TV out = Win for randomly showing a video on a waiting room TV for people to watch. Not having to convert to some BS codec is also a great feature.. who here is sick of reconverting their entire library to some other random ass proprietary codec?

If they get VLC running on this thing I will trade nekkid pix of my girlfriend from her experimenting days in college for one of these for each of us with ATT HSDPA!

Although part of me wants a touch higher resolution, 800x480 doesn't suck, I know since it's 16:9 can't do 800x600, but still, would be nice to have a bit more space.. but everything in steps. This thing blows my Iphone and 5800 out of the water. I'm glad to see someone finally having the nuts to get away from the "super slim at any costs" phone. Some of us want something big enough to actually use the screen, this thing is near perfect size.

You can officially call me an n900 nutswinger, I'm swinging on it's sack like Tarzan through the jungle.

tampa03cobra

Comments on Video: Nokia N900 used to control British art installation

can anyone explain how this thing works.. the onedotzero thing

kelvin
