A DSLR's sensor size can go up to 3". Its really hard to compete with a 3" sensor with your limited by a form factor that can't allow for the same size. The lenses are also so small less light can be captured. Cellphone cameras will always suck unless your using a cellphone that's a bit bigger than average. However, as long as people like small, cameras won't be so good. I mean, my regular-calls and texting samsung phone that's 1/3rd the size of the iPhone won't look nearly as good.

Wes

Comments on FujiFilm Real 3D camera given a video hands-on by fake 3D journalists

I posted a video of this camera here: http://techvideoblog.com/ifa/fujifilm-3d-vga-camcorder/ I'll post my recorded sample using it by tomorrow.

Charbax

Comments on FujiFilm Real 3D camera given a video hands-on by fake 3D journalists

I knew this post couldn't go by without an fangirl. go back to the closet and play with your icraps with the othe {sic} fangirls.

Paul c. Then there is a film on top of the paper that has vertical lenses. When you hold the photo at a certain distance, the film makes sure one eye sees one image and the other eye sees the other image. Since each eye sees a different view, the picture looks 3D.

This technique has been around for decades. In the 70s I had story books with lenticular 3d images on the cover.

I had a film camera that took 3D pictures in the early 90's (it took four pictures at once). You had to send the film off to get the prints made.

What's new here is the digital camera. You get to see the 3D image right away on the camera, and you can take as many pictures as you like without worrying about the cost (assuming you have already paid for the camera). Stereoscopes have been around since the 1800's. Nothing new here. Ooh, but wait! It's got touch screen!!! I agree with some of the posters-you can't get 3D on paper (that is: not in one picture-the early stereoscopes simply used two pictures, one slightly different, put them in the right place, and let you look at one with the left eye and the other with the right, voila, 3D) without glasses or some sort of optical device, I can't imagine how it'd work. But that screen looked cool on my 2D monitor, right at the end I saw some movement which suggested 3D. Crumby vid though. Tripod it next time if you can't hold it steadier.

Nathan

Comments on FujiFilm Real 3D camera given a video hands-on by fake 3D journalists

Oops, just read about the lenticular images.
