And I know their plans are FAR less expensive. Moving two lines with data from Sprint to AT&T costs me over $50 more a month than it used to, and that's for fewer minutes. While it doesn't matter for those who stay within one country, the benefits of GSM shine when constantly switching networks. With a GSM phone, I can pop a cheapo local prepaid SIM card into an unlocked phone and talk at local rates for international calls. I ditched it as soon as people with Pres started really talking about the things they like/dislike about the device after the hype faded. Why would anyone switch over to Sprint and pick up an aging phone that failed to generate any meaningful buzz or cool applications?<br><br>Palm Pre is yesterday's news. It was cool for about 2 weeks and then the novelty wore off. HTC is the new contender with its Android offerings. If you're looking for a non-iPhone smartphone, that's where the action is. Engadget has had a post about it at least once a week since its release. The software development community is very strong, and the updates released for the OS have made huge strides in its usability. It is a sweet phone, and if it can be snagged for $100 with a good $70 a month plan, it is the best deal on the market right now(by a decent margin).<br><br>WebOS still has some developing to do before it can fight BlackBerry and the Treo's PalmOS in the business space, but for personal use it is an absolutely fantastic phone. My only experience with Android was a G1, and although it was neat, the hardware was very poor, and it was a original release version of the software. Everyone said that Android was dead and the App store didn't have any apps in it. When I first got the phone it seemed OK, but having installed some apps, used it since day 1 of release, I can tell you that it's not as great as I thought.<br><br>1.  Very small keyboard, better than iphone, but worse than blackberry<br>2.  Apps are ok, but the phone app is too slow.  When you try to answer a phone, it's frustrating that you either get voice mail or it hung up.  Happens many times a day.  This laggyness is horrible, just like the treo 650<br>3.  Not much apps, sure there's a lot of homebrews...I don't mean to be rude but most of them sucks.<br>4.  Poor construction, battery cover fell off.  Screen scratch, won't slide well after using it for a while.  So yeah...I'm not too happy about the phone.  I prefer the buttons of the treo over the pre anyday. I went from a Curve to a Pre and had no problems adjusting.<br><br>The lag on answering is a big concern with me too. I often wonder if I missed a call because it can take over 10 seconds for the dialer to appear(although I've found that it normally answers in about 1 second, just kinda leaves me hanging visually).<br><br>As for the apps, I've been very pleased with the homebrew scene. PrePodder/drPodder specifically are great examples of fantastic programs.<br><br>I don't have screen scratches nor do I have any battery cap issues. But you really should have a screen protector. You can't expect a surface like that to stay scratch free unless you want it breaking like the iPhone's screen. The slider is a bit wobbly, but it works. I hear the current models on the shelf handle sliding better.<br><br>My only big complaint is the battery life still sucks. If I don't use it much, it can get me through a day, but if I listen to a few podcasts(2-4 hours of audio playback through bluetooth) it will be dead before I get home from work.
