At any rate I don't think arguing cost makes any sense here-money wise buying an HDTV is cheaper especially if you want similar color reproduction and contrast but this wins on resolution.
Definitely *NOT* a budget solution though and most of the time the HDTV would cost a fraction of setting this up properly but obviously the resolution would be limited.
Of course nothing's stopping you from running 3 HDTVs...

I mean, it's going to be intuitive to where you can use the multiple monitors as individual HUD's, but not use the combined monitors as one ugly segmented one. Oh speaking of laptops, why don't they ALL include a flip out LED light (or several) on them too in that wasted bezel space up top (right by the cameras)? I loved that about my Thinkpad...only problem was it was too dim.

1920x1080 is the highest 90% of people can actually notice. Anything above that is just for bragging rights.

Still, this kind of setup could be useful for a display that multiple people use at once - like say those display-walls in that film with the gesture controls that I forget the name.

Incidentally, if you really wanted displays to cover your entire field of vision, the displays away from the centre of your vision need much lower resolution, because your vision is really sharp directly in front of you, and really blurry around all the edges. You (by which I mean, a local billionaire) might be able to build some quite clever systems that fill enormous displays because only the display you're looking at needs the full resolutions; others can scale down to quarter resolution, or sixteenth if it's right on the edges of your view. @Tokenekie & Towncivilian, Audioengine speakers (a5, haven't used a2) suck as computer speakers. They go into standby after 10 minutes of non-use and let you know it by making a popping sound. Then when you play sound through them again, sound is delayed and slightly distorted for a second before it resumes to normal. This doesn't work well as a computer/internet user when sound is random coming from websites, instant messengers, and other programs. Look at an icon on desktop @ 1920x1200 resolution, stick the on the top left monitor. The rest of the monitors blanked to match the same desktop color. Remove all the bezels, and viola you have one HUGE desktop of space.

Now look at a picture taken at VGA resolution vs a high mega pixel. Look at the difference in detail that you, then imagine how much of that they could fit onto a screen with such a high resolution. Uhm... Were you looking at 3DMark scores? I was fooled in the beginning too.

Because in real games 4890 is 90% of time is as good as gf285. Likewise 4870 to gf275.

It also depends on resolution: at higher resolutions (starting at 1920x1200) nVidia cards are notably faster.
