Unlocking and custom ROM's take time. From what I saw with the Touch Pro, it only takes a couple of weeks for someone to unlock it, and then let the custom ROM's flow. Custom ROM's are usually more stable then stock ROM's also.

This DOES void your warranty. Also they will never put Android on this particular phone but they may bring an Android specific device to Verizon but this is windows only. You may be able to head over to XDA as I believe they have been able to port Android over to a Windows phone recently but not entirely sure.
