I have a 2y/o LCD in our bedroom where we mainly watch 4:3 content (not enough HD channels and the stretch modes suck). On the right side, you can clearly see a vertical line where the 4:3 content ends when I watch an HD show. The entire right side is darker than the rest of the screen. You guys are making arguments from half a decade ago that don't apply anymore. For smaller size TVs LCDs are cheaper. LCDs come in Yugo and Mercedes types. So sure you can get a super cheap LCD, doesn't mean you want to watch it. That's why a USB cable that is $5 on Amazon is $XX on the high street. b) The next (manager driven) priority is often to move old stock, no matter which brand it is. c) Frustrated / opinionated / honest!? sales people will push consumers towards a trusted proven brand. After all, they don't want the hassle of dealing with a refund / return. That may mean asking the customer to pay a re-stocking fee and the deduction of the commission. d) Samsung do indeed make some quality goods, but it will be interesting to see what (as yet unheard of) Chinese companies are going to do once the fast resources of that industrious nation come into force. Sony (Japan) > Samsung (Korea) > ?
