Item 1: There's no such thing as M-Audio and Digidesign "teaming up". They're both owned by Avid. They're already one thing.

Item 2: This new "Pro Tools" is less powerful than GarageBand, a free program. I think it should be called "Amateur Tools" if they're going to cripple it this much.

I have read through most of the comments which seem to be aimed at the crippled software not at the sound quality. There is a big difference between an engineer saying too many features have been limited to the point of making it almost useless and someone saying the sound quality is terrible.

But before you weigh in you should be aware there is a huge difference in the quality of studio gear, this is not an audiophile argument which tend to be on the output side.

I don't know when audiophiles started getting such a bad rap (sour grapes maybe?) but on the input side quality is hugely more important. Personally, when I have had to work with restrictions and limitations, it actually helped me think more creatively. It also provided a good way for me get a better understanding of the way things work.
