Gyration Air Mouse Elite gets your hands in the air, like you just don't care
Look out, y'all -- Movea's back. Almost a year to the day after the outfit introduced its air-lovin' Gyration Air Mouse, the Air Mouse Elite is stepping in to take its rightful place atop the range. As with the prior iteration, this one also responds to natural hand movements and enables presenters (or FPS players) to get far, far away from the mousepad. Put simply, the built-in motion sensors enable it to receive commands via "slight wrist movements performed in the air," and it can do so up to 100 feet away from the PC that it's wirelessly attached to. The 3.3-ounce device also ships with a suite of tools for customizing gestures, and if the $99.99 critter just isn't enough, you can spring for a $149.99 bundle that throws in a low-profile wireless keyboard.

Seems like it would be really awkward and take a while to get used to.
WHERE IS THE ZUNE HD REVIEW?
It is... I had a Gyration Mouse at least 6 years ago. I don't know what the "Almost a year to the day" means but it sucked 6 years ago and I'm going to have to assume not much has changed.
Takes about a week to get really comfortable using the air mouse. After that, it is marvelous to use.
I use Logitech's MXAir Mouse. It's not awkward at all - and I imagine this mouse is the same kind of technology. They operate more like wands ... similar to the Wii remote. It's very natural.
It should be "gets your hands in the air, waving it like you just don't care". Bet no one knows who started that chant/hook. Take a guess? Hint: It originated in the NYC hip hop scene...
Another hint: The correct phrase is actually "throw ya hands in the air and wave 'em like you just don't care."
What, no takers? Not even you, Darren Murph? A tech "bon vivant" like you? Come ooon ;^/...
I guess ... "we don't care."
;)
But to answer you ... it must be "Rapper's Delight" by Sugar Hill Gang ... they came up with everything.
Or you can just use a $40 Wiimote...
Yo Gyration Air Mouse, I'm really happy for you, I'll let you finish, but Air Mouse on iPhone can do this. It can do this over Wifi! ...
And as someone who HAS AirMouse? It probably doesn't work as well. There is some little bit of lag due to it being over the network as opposed to directly connected to the computer. Especially with the the typing (I have used it for EVE-Online)
I love the idea of the gyration air mice for interactive presentations (like embedded Flash), but I've had two break on me in short time, so I hope the new generation is more durable and stable. Having the pointer freak out during a presentation is the last thing you want if you are already nervous.
I'm using an old Gyration mouse and keyboard (bought circa 2001) with my HTPC and it is an excellent device. Unfortunately the first one I bought melted (literally, though not completely!) after about a week, and its replacement's rechargable battery died again after about a week. So now I use regular batteries! The keyboard that came with it has to be the best keyboard I've ever used, including full size ones.
Earlier this year I bought another Gyration mouse and keyboard for use on a different PC. Regrettably this keyboard (which wasn't as good as my other one) got screwed up (I'm blaming my 10 month old daughter who is the grim reaper of gadgets at the moment) and no-one in the UK stocks a replacement, no doubt running down stocks prior to the launch of the new set featured here.
I have to say, the Gyration mouse is absolutely brilliant for use on a HTPC hooked up to a large screen.
Of course this would come along when I can't find the Far Side comic strip about group air mousing... grrr
Lol, Gizmodo and Engadget have the same article title for this.
and if you think this mouse suck sombody say OH YEAH!!!......
OH YEAH!!! and ya dont stop..
wiiiiiiiiiiiiiflop

If it is meant to be waved around in the air, a mouse isn't a very comfortable shape. They should elongate it, make it sort of bar shaped, then put some extra buttons on it, then they could pair it up with like a joystick thingy for your other hand! It'd be brilliant!
"Put simply, the built-in motion sensors enable it to receive commands via 'slight wrist movements performed in the air,' and it can do so up to 100 feet away from the PC that it's wirelessly attached to."
This will be great for when I'm playing Crysis in my private movie theater.
I had the original Gyration Air Mouse. It was absolutely amazing... for two months. Then it completely died and the company provided me no support in any way.
Would NEVER purchase again.
Died how? Circuity fried?
I have an old gyration, it works well.
"iphone Air mouse" does no work the same way, the technology (accelerometers) make you do unnatural gestures to control your cursor and wiimote requires the sensor bar to work well (occlusion problems, etc). Gyration's mouse is much more easy to use.
If u make it thru the learning curve its awesome and my hand feels better too.
The desktop mouse shape is not well designed for sitting on your easy chair while watching TV. If that is the plan, the Hillcrest Loop Pointer is a good option instead. Looks cool too...
