player automatically starts. Remove one earbud to
pause music and reinsert it to begin playing the
track again.
To answer a call, insert one earbud. Or, if you are

Personally I'd rather look at who's calling then press a button and have the audio in 2 ears when in a noisy environment and when not talking to a person in person while I'm getting that call.
Or have a button on the bud to take calls, but to each his own, the idea is not bad on its own.

The sensor communicates with the music software in the phone through the FastPort which allows it to pause and play the song. This is simply not possible with a standard jack.

This is one of those situations where proprietary jacks are actually warranted. Sony Ericsson is just being typical Sony Ericsson (or more Sony) by using and enforcing their own standards. It's the same with the memory cards, for example. They could easily use MicroSD for all their phones, but they insist on M2.


My guess for not using 3.5mm jacks on most of their phones (besides for selling products like this one) is that they don't want the phones to be in competition with the Sony Walkman mp3 players and their super expensive phones. So they sell medium priced phones, but if you really want to have a 3.5mm jack on your device you either have to buy a separate Walkman or a top of the line SE phone.
At least that's what SE would like you to do.
