Also, the max speeds can get up to 170Mbps, which in the real world may be 10-20Mbps. When you combine that with the fact that they will be shifting the main 3G band spectrum to the 700Mhz range from 1900Mhz or so and you'll be able to get connectivity within buildings much more reliably (basically everywhere you got an analog TV signal before the switch to digital). And one last benefit of switching to a lower frequency is that it travels farther, meaning more cell coverage with less towers (or the same number of towers supports more people).

But true nationwide for 4G isn't due until 2014-2015. Companies may quote an earlier number, but that's when they will START letting people use the 4G network publically with 4G phones and data cards, but that doesn't mean it'll be in your neck of the woods.

dagamer43

Comments on

No, that's 3.5G speed.

Mega-Japan

Comments on

I can't wait to have her expand my service.

Orris

Comments on

+1

fyreblazer

Comments on

wait ....they already have a 3G network?

Bob

Comments on

Yes.

Mark

Comments on

..and it works better than AT&T's 3G network, at least it has for me. They're focusing on bigger cities it seems, but they're expanding really fast; all that has been done under a year (for comparison, AT&T has been launching 3G for how many years?). They'll probably have it complete by next year; they're starting to offer 21mbps in Philly already. I used to have T-Mobile with the G1, and on average I got over 800kbps on their newly launched 3G 6 months ago... which isn't bad. And it always worked. The only bad thing was that it only covered the big cities. I now have Verizon with work and I get 700kbps to 800kbps (same speeds) but it's everywhere.
