Motorola integrates a lot of the software with widgets and into the GUI similar to how HTC does with the hero. The basic android OS is very boring from a GUI and widget perspective unless you root the phone. You want all this stuff preloaded, especially for the average idiot who won't know how to root the phone. If you don't want the programs then wipe.

It would be like buying an HTC Hero and complaining that they modiffied the GUI to make it more graphically friendly and useable.
