RAmos' Android-based W7 MID gets real -- real familiar

We had a pretty clear indication that this one was coming, but it looks RAmos has finally gotten official with its once mysterious Android-based MID, now known from here on out as the W7. As rumored, this one is a Rockchip-powered device, and packs a 4.8-inch, 800 x 480 touchscreen, 720p video support (via HDMI output, presumably), built-in WiFi, and no 3G, although that apparently could still be in the cards for the future. It also just so happens to bear more than a passing resemblance to eviGroup's recently-debuted Wallet Android MID, and another, non-existent MID / tablet you might have heard of. What's more, RAmos also seems to have taken the opportunity to debut a few other, non-Android-based MIDs and PMPs, including the T11TE (which apparently boasts 1080p output over HDMI), the T9HD, and the T7 -- although details on those are few and far between at the moment.

Looks good.
Welcome to another MP4 Nation dot net player review!
OK off topic for a sec. I got to ask about MP4 Nation. I just went there. The prices are stupidly cheap. What is the catch? I know that these devices aren't from major brands. So does the quality match the price? I'm seeing some specs on those players at a $130 or below price point that borders on an impulse buy.
The quality is pretty surprisingly good, however some players have ui that are either unresponsive or very hard to operate. Make sure you check out online video on how the ui operates
@John Doe
I think the catch, if im not mistaken is a 2 week delivery
I'll bet they didn't license the use of those GOOGLE APPS
i'm with John Doe, there has to be some other catch with these things. i looked at the site and everything is like $100-$150 for MID's that should probably cost at least 2-3 times that feature wise. i've bookmarked the page so maybe i can inspect it more later.
The catch with MP4Nation products is that they're Chinese. Their market is moving at such a drastic rate that rather than release firmware fixes for glitches and functionality expansion, they just release a new version (See the S:Flo -> S:Flo Lite). The concept of 10 year life cycles projected for the PSP, iPhone etc is non-existent in the Chinese PMP world. Doesn't mean they're necessarily bad products, it just means you're pretty much stuck with what you get.
Just looks like an enlarged ipod touch
Ussually the people that posts this line "looks like the iPod touch/iPhone" are saying it
for trolling reasons...
but this really DOES look like a bigger iPod touch... i mean, look:

I hate to say it, but I think I did see a mockup fruit tablet that looked something like this.......
looks like a blown up bootleg ipod touch
just wanted to be the c-c-c-c-c-combo breaker in this sea of white comments
Leave it turned off and you could almost pass it off as an Apple iPad/iBook/iNote whatever. I wonder how good the build quality is.
the real question here is, are they licensed to use Gmail and YouTube apps?
Looks like i'm two late. The comment section has been cluttered with Ipod/apple nonsense already. Looks like a touch screen android MID to me. Kinda like a W7
Yeah; can't believe anyone is deluted enough to spot similarities between those devices..

It's not like an infant can tell they look alike..
funnily enough, i actually want one of these things
I don't understand the MID / UMD, or whatever they're called.
If you have a smart phone like the Pre, G1, iPhone or similar, you'd never get this type of hardware, which inevitably costs oodles more to own than a smart phone. Instead, one would assume that the next step is either a netbook or a low-end laptop with at least a 9" screen, up to 16".
Are there really enough sales of these tween devices, to justify their existence?
Well companies like Archos have existed for years, selling nothing but devices like this. So, I'd have to say yes.
I'll take 8
looks like an iphone- exept bigger.
It looks like that supposable "Apple Tablet" i mean the iPad.
Funny, he mentioned that in the article, Mitch said that in the comments a few lines up, but know that you mention it, it really does.
Seriously, are you guys like pledges in some apple frat and part of your initiation is try to be first in every comment section and all say the exact same thing?
Whatever happened to the Modbook?
Any word on availability/rpcie?
*sighs* So I guess to differentiate it from a fracking Apple product it should have buttons on the front of the device and waste screen realestate ? The touch has a screen and no buttons. So does this. How the hell is it suppose to look different?! Paint the border bright pink!?? >:(
Sadly, there's nothing anyone can do about that.
Apple created a very simplistic design, that,
when a company comes out with a product, the chances are
that one of the charataristics is GOING to have to
have a charateristic of an Apple product.
Sad, but true.
Too bad the sound quality on this only going to be decent.
I found it interesting that you mentioned sound quality on this device. I think since this is more of a micro-computer, that does not really fit in your pocket, I would use it more as a netbook rather than a PMP. Therefore I do not think SQ is a big deal given the fact that one would still most likely carry a PMP.
these MID's are worthless without 3g
At $60/month for 5GB, 3G would make the actual cost of such a device insane. Me thinks they're not letting you pop your smartphone SIM in that thing.
No.
They're perfect without 3G.
Looks great, almost as if it was designed by our favorite fruit company... I kid, I kid. Actually, this looks better with Android than a scaled-up iPhone OS every would, IMO. I hope if the iTablet rumors are true, the OS on is a Mac/iPhone hybrid OS.
US release date for this bad boy any time soon?
Fuck google.
What if i like none of those things?
Great, when an Apple tablet eventually appears, the Fanboys will come about saying that RAmos invented a time machine, went six months into the future, and copied the design of the Apple Tablet.
No, they will say that RAmos stole the time machine from Apple in then went back with the plans for a tablet. ;-)
No, they'll say someone stole RAmos (branding rights) which is Apple's* other brand and went back with Apple's* time machine to go into the future and copy Apple's* upcoming tablet. ;-)
How can it look like a non existant tablet/mid? The non existant device does not exist for anything to look like it If the non existant tablet/ mid in question ever became real, then it would look like this one.
Gaygle's Android is a hindrance. Stop using that piece of crap and use WinCE or any other Linux distro that doesn't run programs on a Java VM.
oh, and they interestingly decide to have a mirror-reflection marketing photo just like the iPod touch...
This would be sooo hot... with 3G! :(
It looks very iTouch-like..
the GUI looks like copied from archos 5
It's just the standard Android GUI. o.O
Two capacities will be available:
8GB - 1299 Chinese Yuan (US$190)
16GB - 1599 Chinese Yuan (US$234)

For those folks asking about MP4nation, they are a bit too good to be true. I tried to order a Smart Devices Q5 from them and was given conflicting messages for a month about its status. They have a strange ticket system for asking questions about pending orders. After waiting almost a month just to find out my order wasn't even shipped yet, I went through Paypal to cancel it. Don't take my word for it, check out the Smart Devices blog for others with the same outcome: http://www.smartqmid.com/phpBB3/index.php.
