HTC Leo benchmarked, leaves blisters
The HTC Leo has already got hearts-aflutter the world over with its high-end spec sheet and huge capacitive touchscreen, but now that some early benchmarks have hit we might have a full-on fanboy panic on our hands. That 1GHz Snapdragon processor isn't just for show, people -- you're looking at least a 300 percent improvement over the Touch HD on every single 3D graphics benchmark with an astounding 1,822 percent improvement on one test, and raw CPU performance was nearly three times as fast. Yeah, those are some wild numbers -- we'll have to see what battery life is like when this thing ships, but for now we'd recommend hitting the read link and taking in the full set of benchmarks.

Because it ultimately falls upon the carriers decision to umm, well, carry the phones.
If they engage the manufacturer by pushing them towards releasing a certain device for their networks, then you better believe the manufacturer would make an effort to work something out.
I am just dumbfounded at times by US carriers.
Last year for example, instead of working with HTC to release the Touch HD here, they instead opted for the Touch Diamond, and some months late at that (verizon).
I can understand not wanting to replace the Touch Pro (due to its keyboard) with the HD, but why not forgo the Diamond? Hell, why not release all 3 for that matter? Why is choice such a bad thing for some carriers? Why is no choice such a good thing to them?
I really don't get it. Everyone who's seen this phone has immediately wanted it, all of my friends/colleagues/associates whether are using Pre's, G1's Touch Pro's, Blackberry's, or iPhones.
Every single one that has seen it, the videos, read the specs, etc. has immediately wanted it.
We have the market for it here in the States, but the inner workings and modus operandi by which our carriers operate leaves me puzzled at times, to say the least.
if Sprint gets this phone first...the award for Best phones selection 2009 is easily had...and so will my Pre to the lucky buyer.
I have the TP and I'm skipping the TP2 for this or the next best thing for Sprint... Forgive me if I say this but I am not ready to give up my SERO plan anytime soon. I'm just getting started w/ this plan!
This is THE BEST LOOKING phone I've every laid my eyes on. I just hope the software can catch up to the hardware and style.
300% Increase... not a chance with HTC. They will develop some bloated porky badly constructed interface.. and slow it down 400%...
God only know why why why do companies feel obligated to push the hardware well past it's capacity - ALL THE FRIGGEN TIME.
*facepalm*
I'd love to see how this thing benchmarks against the Nokia N900. Different software platforms(Maemo vs Winmo), but the N900 seems to loose out on a bunch of stuff, it's processor's significantly slower, it's got more virtual memory but less physical memory, stuff like that.
I'm leaning towards the N900 because the qwerty keyboard's important to me. But this is really tempting tho..
Looking forward to multi-core mobile processors.
oh yea ? Nokia N82 already had Dual ARM
Yeah?
I remember, not so long ago, when breaking the 1Ghz barrier on the Desktop was a huge deal.
The fact these CPUs are being put in solid state hand held devices is amazing.
Dayum that's fast, i got blisters on my fingers yo!
What's with all the android trolls today, seriously? LOL PUT ANDROID ON THIZ THEN I BUY ZOMG
Android isn't the return of jesus, it's just a damn mobile OS, just an unstable and blah as the rest of them.
I feel so bad for you US guys, in Europe you can get any phone on any contract through third parties :(
And usualy free for 30 euros a month as well. (2 years though if you want top of the line completly ' free ')
Well that's not really a brand new thing now is it? Toshiba TG01 did it. Acer does it with the F1. All snap dragons. And there will be much more by the end of this year. The coice only gets more difficult. Especially when other brands offer other OS's besides MS on the same processor.
i'll probably import even if it does not have the right 3g fequency if they aren't cuming u.s. of a.
Mushroom....Mushroom...
Looking good. Cant wait to see it in person. When is the release date again?
Does anyone know what GPU this phone has? those benchmarks cant be so good with the CPU alone...
Slap Android on this thing with Flash support and I'll be the first one in line.
Hack that on to T Mobile and I'm sold. Heck the screen is big enough that even a touch keyboard would be usable on the thing.
Rumored pricing... Not sure of prev posting...

$875.00 US dollars!
too bad we'll never see this on us shores subsidized
LOL: One blog says the page has been "Engadgeted". Is this an emerging phenomenon in need of a name? A rush of news-hungry blog-mongers DOS attack unsuspecting articles? haha. maybe we can shorten the term to something that rolls off the tongue easier.
Shading of the lowest ranked commnets is lame. I want to read all comments. Engadget, if you want to separate low quality form high, try stars.
Would love to see Android on this, but nevertheless, glad to see it coming out!
I bet this thing can play a mean game of Snake!! Better than my current Nokia 1260 at least... :(
So.... I thought this was going to be an Android phone?
Where can I get this?
