Core 2 Solo is not an Oxymoron at all if you've followed the "Core" line long enough. Before Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Solo there was simply Core Duo and Core Solo, the "2" after Core now refers to the fact that it is now in its second generation. The second generation of the "Core" line offers more bandwidth to the processor through a higher speed FSB or Front Side Bus which is the piece of hardware on the motherboard that determines the speed at which the memory on your motherboard communicates with your CPU.

I've never bought an Intel product since the Pentium III and even I know the above information.
