Seriously? Since when has Microsoft ever been browbeat into charging less for something other than normal market pricing points throughout the software life cycle?<br><br>Apple pricing through the years? Nope.<br>Things like BeOS? Nope.<br>EVERY flavor of Linux? Nope.<br>Open Office? Nope.<br>Porn Videos? Nope.<br><br>While I would love to see the pricing come down, and IMHO google is likely the only one big enough to get it done, it is VERY unlikely it will happen anytime soon. Maybe in 3-5 years if ChromeOS has the staying power and people don't hate it for the usual linux** reasons. The word monopoly implies control, like what Microsoft has with Windows and Internet Explorer... but it is not what Google has or ever will have with Chromium or Chrome OS (assuming they stay open source and able to modify freely).<br><br>PS. Whether that is the case or not is the question at hand.  I do find it suspicious that MS has never done this before or either XP or Vista. (However deep student discounts have always been in place.)  *shrugs*  Meh. I don't know what all the hype is about, especially since there is not much to go on about it. Who knows what it will actually be like, it could be a complete fail for the first couple years, or it could be a complete success. I think too many people are giving it too much credit, just because its Google. If they were, then of course I would go for FREE, but as they aren't I will pay, until your FREE product is found equal. To me, the real thing IS the linux version.  I get frustrated on my work computer (winXP) because there isn't a windows equivalent to the linux-based tool I want to use. Chrome is amazing, and it shows that a company based around web-search, has an almost creepy understanding of high profile coding. To think that a search company created the V8 javascript engine.
