OK... so I'll give Apple the credit it deserves here: this laptop is a blatant ripoff. HP must be a fan of irony, naming a rip-off product the "Envy".

That said, I'm sick of people using the term "luxury" when relating to computer equipment, especially when it relates to a product whose design was entirely done by another company. It's pretty pathetic that Apple's rather spartan demeanor is what passes for "design" these days, and even more so, as a design worth ripping off. The only thing HP brings to the table w/ a $1700 price tag is the slice battery (which, admittedly, gives me nerd-wood).

scabby

Comments on HP Envy 13 review

Why isn't this a KIRF?

In all seriousness though, why wouldn't you just buy a Macbook for the same money and not have to deal with Windows?

ben

Comments on HP Envy 13 review

I believe VoodooPC came up with the name ENVY and their machines came before the unibody MBPs
so unless I am mistaken, Apple copied VoodooPC (now owned by HP) and not the other way around.

Beastage

Comments on HP Envy 13 review

Except the voodoo envy looked like this:
http://blog.laptopmag.com/voodoo-envy-133-mini-review-air-killer

ben

Comments on HP Envy 13 review

In my opinion ... at 1.7k i Would rather get a macbook pro with windows on it ...or hell i would even try osx .

Matt

Comments on HP Envy 13 review

I feel bad for HP. MacBooks are supposed to be portrayed as God-like products, so of course if something comes along like the Envy 13, Engadget HAS to bust it down to size so MacBooks still look cool. If anyone is considering the Macbook... the trackpad is what puts it over the top. Anyone trying it in a store is going to discover the flaws pretty quickly but not so people who buy it on-line. Apple got away with the button-less trackpad as the OS is less dependent on two buttons. Windows is designed around (and a lot easier to use with) two buttons. This is a case of HP trying to mimick a competitor's style to its overall detriment (although they mimicked the price pretty well).....

Jim

Comments on HP Envy 13 review

I just picked up a 13" MBP after using Windows exclusively and professionally for 15-20 years.
