That is the whole f...ing point of capitalism. To complain about that seems misguided. If you're a supporter of capitalism, then your responsibility is to find out how you can become competitive while making the profit you deem desirable. That's it. Everyone else is trying to figure out how to pay labor as little as possible... that's actually why people try to get out of the laborer role and become the capitalist.

Anyway, a world full of Kirf's, and articles sourced from everyone else, is a world not worth living in. It's actually a win win situation that US is outsourcing to these third world country. Consumers get better price, Company gets more profit, and these people in third world country are getting paid. The only losers are those who feel entitled to higher pay and a bunch of benefits. The notion about human rights is bs too, what we consider to be human rights does not apply to everywhere else. For example, you can't start making Champagne in Siberia even if you want to. France therefore has a comparative advantage which allows for (relatively) highly paid, skilled workers. The US was given a comparative advantage by not having its mainland destroyed during the second world war. All of its factories and means of production were left unscathed. Even though Europe had lots of skilled workers, they had no infrastructure.

Amazingly, lead economists in the US pushed hard to give away this comparative advantage (which persisted for decades through advancements in productivity via high tech and research) during the 90's under the guise of free trade. I have no idea why this was done. Everything was "outsourced" and the race to the bottom began.

As soon as the US loses its role as reserve currency, it'll lose its super power status and its citizens will have to get used to being not so rich. The upside? It won't have the capital to continue aggressive expansion of its empire via endless war.

John Swanson

ScienceisCool

Comments on China's KIRF marketplace captured on hidden camera

@ScienceisCool,

The US lost its competitive advantage in 60s, when the US productivity became stagnant. Since 1974 the US have been the world's leading borrower, turning to it from being the biggest creditor in 1940s and 1950s. So the myth of "competitive advantage" persisting for decades is inaccurate - the "productivity" growth was driven by spending and borrowing, not by the actual productivity advancements.

There was an ongoing augment, like Henry E. provided here, that outsourcing is good for the economy, as it benefits the consumer and shifts low-value jobs abroad. It turned into the biggest fallacy of all. Sure, on a small enough scale, outsourcing of low-value high-pollution jobs is great, but you have to be able to create new high-value jobs domestically. The US went nuts and outsourced everything - low-, mid- and high-value jobs to China and India. Instead, the jobs were created in the areas of consumption of goods and services produced by others. It is all cool for as long as others are willing to pay for you consuming their stuff. Except, China is perfectly capable consuming their own stuff themselves, without exchanging goods for the printed paper called the US dollar. The US quality of life was financed by borrowing abroad, and it is coming to an end.

And wars are have to be financed by someone. I'm not a supporter of capitalism, and it sounds like I am one of those sorts you so fondly loathe.

I know this won't win me too many friends on this site, and who cares frankly, but I personally detest the negative characteristics of capitalism that I pointed out as conditions above. I don't believe they should be overlooked and I don't think we as labor will survive if the salaries keep plummeting. Lowering salaries is not a temporary phenomenon... it just took Capitalists some time to remove te gains made by Organized Labor... that other thing most of you hate for god knows what reason. Organized Labor is why you get good pay, why you work 8 hours, why you work 5 days a week, why you get sick pay, why you get holidays, why you don't have to work from the age of 10. You can cherish capitalism all you want, but read the god damn history first, and then decide if it's really the best social mechanism available.

I wrote it that way on purpose, because I know a lot of people in the world are taught that capitalism is the ideal... and many people come to believe it. Me personally, I cannot sit and watch 3 billion people suffer through poverty, starvation, famine, disease, internal strife, simply because the other 4 billion people have not learned how to share. It makes me sick. I'm not a capitalist by choice... I participate to survive while I figure out how to get out and help those 3 billion people who are suffering. I am by no means fascinated by money or wealth... human beings, not just myself, matter to me more.

That's the irony. I was hoping some of you would see that you are labor and that it sucks to be labor in this system. Oh well. Maybe next time. :)

Please Forgive Me

Comments on China's KIRF marketplace captured on hidden camera

EDIT:

Replace this: I'm not a capitalist by choice...

With this: I don't participate in the capitalist system by choice...

By the way, I don't think that the socialism and communism we've seen so far as worth emulating either.
