It's all going to fall down once the Apple tablet hits the streets.  Apple will sell more iPad tablets in a month than all the Kindle's combined.  I think the Kindle is a great device, but people are not going to be satisfied with just owning an eReader device once the iPad comes out. If you buy a kindle you basically get the US version which comes with an AT&T SIM (locked). So, because of this, every time you buy a book using the 3g data transfer you essentially racking up roaming charges. Since Amazon apparently failed to/didn't want to negotiate deals with local carriers, the international Kindles are in permanent AT&T roaming mode.<br><br>Which means you're paying an additional $2 per book download, and a whopping $5 per WEEK on top of any newspaper subscription fee. And emailing them a file to convert costs $1 internationally, regardless of whether the conversion is successful or not.<br><br>In addition, when ordering the Kindle, you have to handle all import fees, transport costs from the US etc yourself...and many ebooks in the Kindle store aren't even available outside the US due to copyright issues.<br><br>...so, in short, Amazon might as well not have bothered with this "international" release. They must give more details about when will the DX be released. Some people may hold the kindle 2 purchase because they don't have enought data. With a combined world release of kidle 2 and dx they would have get much more. Now some people that prefer the dx are confused because they don't know if they should wait for dx to be released or not.
