The cost of any semiconductor product is inversely proportional to yield, which is inversely proportional to area of each chip. Thus the cost of said semiconductor is directly proportional to the area of the semiconductor. The increase in cost is due to the fact that the US dollar has fallen significantly against the Yen, currently about 1 USD = 90 JPY.
