I do not want to have to use special software that connects to their server. I either want to directly WiFi my pics to my laptop, or through my home LAN, or to my home's IP directly via an open WiFi hotspot.

I hate these devices that are locked to a "service provider" Because if the company goes under, you now have a really expensive SD card.
I have purchased too many service based devices that suddenly stopped working because the company died. They wil never do it for free.
