there is an odd lack of Asians in the picture
That also looks like a roof top. The address says it takes place in a ...basement. ... ... ...
Yup, lots of Gaijin in that photo
The photo that Engadget is showing was from the party that was held in New York 08.
you sure this is Tokyo, engadget?
The picture is from Hiro Ballroom in New York City, which has a japanese theme.
a) this is a pic from last December's gathering at the Hiro Ballroom in NYC
b) the gentleman with his face obscured by the hook of the "e" is Asian (at least he was at the event; I assume he is still so)
c) I'd appreciate if engadget would ask permission before using my frickin' likeness**
**i.e.: bribe me.
Yup, that's pretty much going to be the case at the venue too. I've been to SuperDeluxe before and it's 80% foreigners and 20% local flavor. Another thing to consider regarding this venue is that it's pretty darn small too, might be able to fit 125-150 people and even then it would be cramped. Good thing about this for attendees... greater chance of winning chotckies!
If I was still in the area, I'd definitely go... though I'd make a reservation to ensure I get in.
Great chance to find and beat the crap out of that annoying guy who always makes fun of your posts.
I didn't know there were so many African American in Tokyo.
African Japanese :D
What else are they after if it isnt some tight Pussy*cat* XD
Well im an African not American and i love them Cats
Sorry Engadget
Blackanese? O_o
Actually if you go to Roppongi at night you will see a lot of Africans. Mostly Nigerians though and they speak very good English.
As the meeting is on the 15th of October and today is the 12th of October, I believe the picture has not been taken yet.
The picture above may just belong to a previous Engadget meeting.
I am sure there would be at least one Asian looking face in Japan.
As for the African-American comments: (1) Planes, (2) There are many Brazilians of African ancestry in Japan.
I was making a silly joke.
I like African Americans.
I know, I was answering it :D
Dang, missed it by a month, any chance of a reader meetup in Chicago?
ditto
Hey, you think Engadget could stop by California sometime?
Waiting in Chicago
I'll be there.
It's sausage fest in there! I don't see one* girl in that picture. Can't have a party without cute geeky girls... FAIL
As someone else mentioned, that picture is from the NYC event. Yes, there will be girls, music, drinks, food, and more. C'mon, you know you want to come!
where's all the asians?
They all went to play Demon Souls on the PS3 Slim.
Don't all nerds look alike?
Like I said picture is from NEW YORK event at HIRO Ballroom, hence the disco ball and Japanese lantern....
Hmm - I'd like to go, but have to work. Nice job on the advance notification, Engadget!
NOT!
A venue called Super-Deluxe. All my favorite Japanese stereotypes are REAL!
sausage fest.
what about a stopover in north korea
whoa...dudes
darn... I'll be in Tokyo 2 days later... being from Texas it'll be the closest I've come to a reader met up.
