Unlocked, contract-free HTC HD2 will be available November 11 for a lot of money
We know the HD2 is hitting O2 later this month and Vodafone is getting the handset in Spain in December, but now it looks like the unlocked version isn't too far off either: UK retailer Clove says it'll be out on November 11 for £469, about $740 US. Importing will soon follow, to be sure, but though the phone is unlocked and sim-free we'll be limited to EDGE in the States until that US-specific version hits our shores next year. The question is: will we be strong enough to wait?

Hey Engadget, give me admin powers and I'll make sure to always do some IP/e-mail/screenname/whatever ban on dumbasses like "Truth". Then we can have a somewhat cleaner internet ^_^.
why do you rubes always fall for the most obvious troll bait?
Engadget I request if you get downranked x amount of times replace Lowest Ranked with Ignorant and minimize their reply.
We'll be responsible I swear.
We all know these prices are inflated to grab a bit of extra cash from all the myopic individuals who just have to have the phone at their doorstep on the release date. Saying that, it's not a bad price overall, considering the original HD is still at roughly the same price on ExpansysUK today.
Although people are pointing out that the original iphone was $500 + on contract, I was able to pick one up last year whilst the price was £169 for an 8gb model. That was supposed to be on contract too, but when bought from an o2 store you could pay your money and take the phone without signing anything.
Take it home, jailbreak it, stick any sim you like in and off you go, £169 unlocked. Now if only HTC would make such a massive screw up...
I'm looking forward to the HD2, but i'm currently running the HD2 rom on my HD and even with inferior processor and smaller resistive screen, it's running just fine, so i'll hold out till the end of my contract and get one of these once the prices have come down a bit.
Also, is it just me, or after the N96 + N97 flop and the general lack of interest for android handsets (comment trolls not included) or is WinMo making a huge comeback?
Am I the only one that doesn't understand the Android love-fest?
I've used Android devices and they're not any better performing, stable, or easy to use than a current WinMo 6.1 or 6.5 device.
I'll wait (sadly) to replace my sorry, $299 samsung epix (with contract) that I've spend the last 3 weeks trying to get replaced. First non-AT&T carrier with this gets my business and AT&T can speak to the BBB and anyone else I can find if they think I'll pay the termination fee for their sorry service.
"More bars in a small town of 15k but not in your 160k+ major military city." Sick of them as an employee and customer! Give me back Cingular!!!
please keep us up to date on the US relelase!!!
I am trying real hard not to buy anything right now waiting for this but it is real hard
what dock is that? not seen it before..it looks awesome
Why does HTC hate people in the US?
Why can't HTC make a true global GSM phone?
I hope my venerable Kaiser lasts long enough to see the HD3.
(Yes, I realize that HTC will offer Verizonized, AT&T-esque, T-mobiled phones for the US markets, but did you see what they did to the Touch Pro2 and Diamond? Yeeech!)
