And if you peruse WinMo fora such as XDA-devs, you'll find that a lot of people have no intention of moving to another OS.

Regarding the rest of your post, yes Vista was poor but it hasn't hurt MS's market position in any great way and what harm it has done will be healed by Windows 7, especially given the way in which MS allow a lot of Vista users to upgrade, even for free in some cases (which is a concept that I doubt has ever crossed the minds of Apple when it comes to rolling out their 'service packs', sorry, I mean OS 10.whatever).
The Zune was always going to struggle due to how late it was to the market but it has a dedicated-enough following from people who actually care about how their music sounds, as that's one area that iPods have always under-performed. All MS really need to do now is sott out releasing the Zune in other countries - which is not to say that it'll overtake Apple in terms of sales, merely that it would no longer be 'clinging' to life as you so succinctly put it.

Iain

Comments on Motorola CLIQ review

^^ That's some pretty hardcore rationalization. Windows Mobile had ~30-40% of the SmartPhone market 3 years ago. They have less than 10% today. They either have not expanded their market or are losing customers -- more likely both. As you said there may be some loyalists who will stick with the platform and they may even make money doing it. The problem for Microsoft is that Android has a very high chance of "Windowsizing" the mobile market where the catalog of software for it is so vast that users and developers have very little interest in other platforms. There's probably only a 2-3 year period here (or less) before the mobile market is pretty firmly set into stone. At that point it will be difficult or impossible for Microsoft to make a comeback.

SinisterJoe

Comments on Motorola CLIQ review

this is a little off topic. but did any1 notice in the original renders of the sholes it had the 3 buttons for blur. and the real thing has all 4 buttons and no blur.

SeanCollinDuffy

Comments on Motorola CLIQ review

No, but I'm wearing Dr. Sholes.

WinMo_is_trash

Comments on Motorola CLIQ review

They added a search hard key, big deal.
