ArchosFans.com reports that the majority of
issues encountered by early adopters of the Android-equipped Archos 5 Internet Tablet (not to be confused with the
older Internet Media Tablet, ugh) have been remedied by the caped crusader that is firmware revision 1.1.01. Forum members do seem to corroborate that the previously habitual lockups are no more, but the complex update procedure has already (probably temporarily) bricked one user's device, while another still has random disconnects when transferring files from his PC under the new firmware. Still, if you've been among the unfortunate victims of the sloppy original software, this is a ray of light for you, and the read link -- featuring input from a source within Archos -- should be considered required reading.

Good to know! Seriously thinking of getting this lil' beauty. With donut coming end of 2009 for this and flash early next year, this thing is the ultimate PMP. iTouch and Zune HD both look incredibly awesome and stuff but screen is too small. I want a good web browsing PMP. This thing supposedly loads pages faster than iPhone and other competitors.
I'm still waiting for that phone they promised...

11 is such an bizarre number. I always thought DC wanted 12 icons in the JLA, to mimic that whole Christ thing. One is missing. Tell me, who is it? And can it be rendered in the next Archos story on Engadget?

Charbax isn't a reliable source for anything. He's a delusional tool who would lie for Archos over anything since his fanboyism runs that deep.
I bet Archos was scrambling trying to right their wrongs with Amazon, though. It's about time they had a good wake-up call scare.
Charbax has reported that it fixes all the problems... Ok.. first off -- HE DOESN'T EVEN OWN ONE (self admitted). Secondly, this guy tries to cover up every single catastrophe that Archos produces. His credibility is ZILCH. Stop quoting this guy in Archos products -- he has his life savings in their stock for crying out loud. I know two people with these POS devices. The both said, that yes, it dropped the ammount of crashes -- from 8 an hour to 5 -- WONDERFUL. This company is a fiasco. I hate Apple to death, and I would suggest purchasing anything they make over the crap this company shovels out the door every other week. Why do they keep making products with the SAME problems over and over? Are they this stupid that they can't figure this crap out already? UTTER DISASTER.

I will third that opinion.
Agreed he is a fanboy and doesn't want to admit any bad with any Archos product BUT he is getting an Archos 5 Android to test stuff out on and he has been more truthful recently. I don't usually pay attention to his comments but instead I read the comments of other people who are neutral and aren't flaming Archos for it's record, but instead give their opinions on the device.

The random disconnect is a problem of the older 5. I guess they used firmware from about a year ago and never bothered to update.
i got so annoyed on this that i had to email Archos right now asking if they're gonna continue any type of support for the Archos 5/7 line or do they not give a shit about current/past owners anymore since they're new lines are out. Ive been waiting almost a year since i got my Archos 7 for them to release firmware that fixes the problems im constantly having.
I JUST GOT ONE, and, this thing is full of bugs, the main reaSON I got is for web browsing and documents reading. I really love the screen. U can read very small texts because of the amount of pixels. I'm still very excited about this. Because all the problems can be fixed by software update. Just hoping archos take software more seriolly. I wish the ipod touch had this sreen. Its feaking great. U can see me unboxing it on utube search martins2012. And se my lqst video.
