PSP Go is $200 at Fry's this weekend... err, '$249.99 before $50 savings'
You could also say it's just the square root of 39,996, or maybe the circumference of a circle that's 63.66 units in diameter, but that's just plain silly. Alternatively, you could just save $30 and buy the chunkier model that still plays UMDs.

But you'll save $200 by not buying it !
Not only will you save monies or the hardware you will also save monies on worthless software.
PSP Go = you are;
NOT allowed to trade your games,
NOT allowed to lend your games,
NOT allowed to sell your games,
NOT even allowed to give your games away for free.
Not allowed to even give your games away when you sell your PSP Go, you are ordered by sony to format the hard drive or face criminal prosecution.
with this anti consumer move Sony has rendered all software purchases worthless.
i dont see recording artists getting monies from the sale of second hand media.
i dont see film studios getting monies from the sale of second hand DVD's
i dont see the motor industry getting monies from the sale of second hand cars.
i dont see construction companies getting revenue from the sale of second hand homes.
@ cannon fodder.
Those same arguments can be made with iPhone/iPod games. But Sony does allow up to 5 simultaneously activated devices, so you can lend your games - and in fact, have more then one of your digital downloads on more then one device simultaneously. You can also re-download a game an unlimited number of times once you purchased it.
Much like how you can 'share' games on your PS3. If you give your friend your login/pw you can conceivable 'give' your friend all your games, and still be able to play it on your own machine.
You can in fact re-sell all your games if you are willing to sell your PSN account (login/pw), so its advisable to clear your personal data from the account and perhaps even buy games on two different accounts if you plan on selling one.
@ Temple.
great FUD, take your lies somewhere else. I strongly suggest you read the PSN EULA. The PSN account is linked to a serial number & master account you are however allowed to create sub accounts. You are however NOT allowed to sell your psn account & if you sell any hardware it must be formatted removing all traces of downloaded content & user details.
@Cannon Fodder
No FUD, look on the PS3 once the a PSP game has downloaded, it says "you can play this game on 5 separate machines".
You've posted the same BS since the PSP GO was released, just take your take your propaganda somewhere else, you don't like it? Fine but let every one make up their own damn minds.
@cannon fodder
Not FUD, mate, there are plenty of thread on gaming forums where people share games- especially PS3 games. In fact, my brother, a friend, and me share the same PSN-downloaded PSP games on three different machines. We also share PS3 games as well- we have an US & EU account- its great to share out-of-region games. One purchase on three machines.
Its perfectly fair. It allows for a little abuse, but I wouldn't be giving the password to my account to people I don't trust. And this flexibility is the reason I buy into these digital downloads. It also makes sense since even if you upgrade from a PSP to a newer model (like the Go) you will have two PSPs, and you will need to play games on both.
And yeah, theoretically, I guess you could also sell your games and your account, because I've seen people do it online. I mean, since you have 5 activations, I guess you can sell one and still keep your games.
@Temple: You can share your apps on 5 authorized computers too. Just log into iTunes on each computer and download the games.
i suggest tht you all read your RULA as you are breaking the law if you sell you PSN account, if you purchase a psn account & are found out sony will shut it down with all downloaded content.
EULA*
>>i suggest tht you all read your RULA as you are breaking the law if you sell you PSN account, if you purchase a psn account & are found out sony will shut it down with all downloaded content.
Now, YOU are the one spreading FUD. There are a ton of people online selling their accounts online, and there hasn't been a single report of anything being done.
Sharing is not allowed according to the EULA. You can have the license active on up to 5 devices that you own. But, as with any software, you are only purchasing 1 (one) license, not 5 individual licenses. You can use that software. But not your friend or family, of course, unless you own the devices and you are "sharing" the devices themselves.
And yes, PSN accounts have been blocked or suspended. There are many such postings in the PSN forums.
@Jimmijam
Obviously, sharing isn't allowed strictly speaking; especially if you are talking about 20-page EULAs and lawyer speak. Its an abuse of the system, Sony obviously knows about this. NeoGaf, a site that a lot of developers go to, has a huge thread on this and I'm sure they've read it.
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=135624
Only time they will suspend you is if you have everyone constantly logging-in at the same time on the same account, you'll get a warning first and the first time they'll only suspend you for a day. And this is only an issue for the PS3, where you would log-in frequently, for the PSP you only log-in to access the PSN store (or not at all if you download via the PC). For the PS3, you only need to download the game, you can play it using another account on the same machine.
But they seem to be pretty flexible on the whole concept and they aren't draconian on their enforcement. I'm sure its an attempt to calm the mouth-breathing skeptics of digital-distribution like Cannon Fodder. You can also game-share with Steam, but like PSN, you should only do it with people you trust.
Could they have found a worse picture to use? The S is barely even readable in "Sony"
They just put as much time into posting that picture as Sony spent coming up with the idea for the GO.
"Smaller screen?", "Check!",
"Download only?", "Check!",
"Less cooler looking than the original?", "Check!",
"More expensive?" "HELL YES!"
"I think we have a winner!" *High fives all around*
I still can't believe this thing is real.
Agreed must've been shot from an I-phone First Gen.
Fry's ads are printed on newspaper. This actually looks pretty good for a newspaper scan that's been blown up to about twice it's size.
-"smaller screen" Yep, but it is crisper and clearer. Besides, it makes the device much more portable/pocketeble
- "Download only" Saves on size and weight, plus it adds durability by leaving it off. Plus, it's 2009, gget with the program...
-"Looks less cool looking"? Really? I think the Go is pretty nice looking, more professional than the psp1000 will ever be.
-"More expensive" Yes, but when you take a psp3000 and add the extra 16 gigs of memory the prices are edging closer, the only thing is that with the pspgo I could upgrade to 2X the maximum memory the 3000 is capable of. I think that is a big bonus because it allows for the usage of the pspgo as a full portable media solution.
The PSPgo is not for everyone, and if you don't like don't get it. But for many people it reflects a convergence device that has good quality (hard to find), excellent portability, and an awesome multimedia/gaming experience. I can't really see how this can be bad....
.
Youl Save more if you go with the touch only device with app store and fruit logo
while i agree with you, have you played each "console"? the games for a psp are actually fun and you can actually move where and how you want to. while i really like my iphone (or ipod if you will), playing games on it is rather lacking.
It's not a game console. It's a multimedia device.
you could say the same about the dsi, ps3, xbox 360, etc. that's also why i put console in "quotation marks". when it all boils down to it, a psp is a game console that plays music as well (among other things) and an ipod is a mp3 player that plays games as well (among other things). please do us all a favor and stop comparing the 2 when talking about games. an ipod will always come in last place.
@Ei8ht
When it comes to games Sony's PSP in last place with over 600 games, While Apple iTouch/iPhone has over 21.000 games
http://www.omio.com/blog/wp-content/apple-ipod-sept-09-1293-rm-eng.jpg
Proving when it comes to games PSP GO, will always be in last place, due to poor design, poor support, lack of game developer support, poor software, poor pricing , no touch screen, failure of UMD format and more problems
The ipod/iphone is great for multimedia and apps, but horrid for games. 95% on stuff on the appstore is shovelware, and without an actual controls its virtually unplayable for any game with any degree of complexity.
I think this is a clear case of quality over quantity. I'd rather have 600 games made by developers with a decent sized budget to choose from than 21,000 where the majority of them are made by your average Joe in his bedroom, and finding the rare good one is like finding a needle in the proverbial haystack.
@ ocean clack 34th
that is by far the stupidest comparison i've ever heard. i'm talking about game quality and enjoyment, not quantity. now i'm not dissing the iphone / ipod in any way, i've already mentioned that i have the iphone and i love it. but please, don't be such an ignorant douche by saying that gameplay on an ipod is better.
@Ocean Clak 34th
Have u even played the PSP yet? Coz it doesnt seem like u did
BTW: PSP Go is poor because it has no touch-screen? DUDE, go play PES or Tekken with ur iTouch, wish I could uppercut u
clak, i must ask why you insist on coming back. 34th? Really?
This little thread made me lol hard. So basically the PSP is the Gamecube of last generation (small number of games but lots of good ones) and the iPod/iPhone is the PS2 of last generation (Massive library of games but only a handful of half-decent ones)? Boy fanboys are hilarious.
Available in black & white?
And here I thought that the PSP displays couldn't get any worse after the 3000 model.
The white is actually pretty nice.
@Se7ven, he meant the display is like those old Black & White TV
WHITE IS COMING.
Sorry... I still laugh at that.
I like the displays. I know other people don't, but I think it's great for the graphic level of this PS2-light style of game.
Give it to me for $1 and I might even consider thinking about probably getting one.
I don't feel so bad now. I picked mine up from Dell online for $200 shipped on October 1st.
-or avoid the whole mess for the cluster-F that it is...
Everyone hated the UMD until this came out... now everyone hates this for not having one...
Glad I'm not the only one to notice!
UMD's where a bit of a fail though. To be honest - I really like the idea of downloading games and cutting out the physical disc on a portable "games console" device.
It just needs to be so much cheaper. You can't expect people to pay what they used to when they could sell it on after.
UMD was a good idea (I'm all for smaller form factor disks) executed horribly. By keeping format proprietary, they have ensured that it would remain expensive. Needless to mention that it also taxed PSP battery.
With PSP Go, I'd argue that they have NOT removed UMD. OK, device doesn't have drive nor you have to buy disks anymore. But the Sony offered zero, zilch, nada as a replacement for UMD. PSP Go owners buy the very same games - with only physical media removed from the equation. Worst: they still cost the same despite having lost the media.
Sony should have done it properly by offering a clear upgrade path for the old PSP model owners. (Like in "being responsible for your past mistakes".) They should have also done something to keep second hand market ticking: with all the DRM PSP always had I'm pretty sure it is possible. (E.g. something like StarDock was proposing recently in the news, where publishers set the price for the S/H games and sale of game to somebody else is a license transfer from one customer to another.)
Even simple DD game exchange would have changed drastically PSP Go reception. But it seems Sony lost its innovative spirit and instead is waiting for somebody else to come up with a business model.
Everyone hated the UMD when it came out because the drive drove down battery life and raised the cost of games to that of almost console games. And the UMD movies were more expensive than DVD's. Now that the costs are down and the format has utterly failed the price is perfect for the average consumer and Sony has raised the battery life of their PSP with new versions so the PSP Go is a worthless device. To "everyone" it's just an excuse for Sony to start charging the same premium again the first year PSP games had and removes the possibility of price drops.
Fordy, it will get cheaper.
It's just another choice. I think it's the perfect size and the old PSP is too big. I also think it's great for people who don't already own many UMDs or are new to PSPs entirely. Having all your games downloaded is kickass for people who never sell or trade games (that's actually a hell of a lot of folks who are underrepresented on tech blogs).
I won't buy this just because the stick is in the wrong place IMO, but it's not a problem in my eyes that a new tech item that is really slick is overpriced... that's kinda the Sony way, after all. It'll be cheap eventually.
I do love the idea of just downloading games instead of having to keep up with cartridges. What I don't love is the need to rebuy...well everything. I have a huge problem with having to rebuy games that I already own (even assuming they become available for download). I have an equal problem with rebuying perfectly good accessories because Sony wanted to have proprietory inputs (just because Apple is #$@hole enough to do it doesn't make it right).
The PSP Go should be a good upgrade device but right now the financial investment even if the device was given away practically for free doesn't really make it worth it.
Being able to connect the Go to my HDTV and use the Dual Shock 3 sounds good to me. I'm still on the fence because I want the Gradius Collection to be available. Konami has been quiet on that front.
even if they did some kind of trade in from my 3000 to a GO, i might have to think about it for a while, i love new gadgets, but i could easily buy a huge memory stick for my 3000 and just download the games, God of War COO is 1.29gigs? how quickly will my 16 gigs go? plus, 2.99 UMD deals on Amazon all the time, no thank you digital downloads.
dont get me wrong, I love digital downloading, the point usually is that it is cheaper, im not going to go out and buy every rock band track pack, waste the disc by throwing it away once i put it on my RB2, and im not going out to buy the last guy on Blu-Ray or the Pixeljunk games(love those too), i even do the game sharing with 3 of my friends with our DLC. but UMD-less? no thanks Sony, I'm a fanboy for your products, but you dont have me on this one...
when does that xbox 360.5 handheald come out? and yes, i just coined that phrase RIGHT NOW!
ugggg nvm
Also Me Me Me
Is the black and white screen cheaper than the color? :]
The psp SUCKS. I'd rather play Gameboy color.
At first I laughed when I read "Available in Black & White" but then I realized, Oh... Right... One version in black and another version in white... Not, one version with black and white on it.
I still don't want it. Too cramped, not enough good games, DRM's a PITA.
