Also, Japanese don't have the strong negative attachment to the number 4 as the Chinese do, where 4 can also also be associated with death. The 1D is a global brand targeted at professionals, it won't skip the number "4" based on Japanese superstitious, especially being it would non-nonsensical to the rest of the world. But it's actually common practice in modern Japanese to use English pronunciation of numbers in product names.

In the case of "Mark IV", they will call it "maaku foh", just as the current 1Ds/1D mIII are called "maaku surii". And when I bought my 5DmII, the salesperson reviewed my purchase as "maaku tsuu".

The same applies to the class name. 1D(s) is called "wan dii (essu)" instead of "ichi"; 5D is "faibu dii" instead of "go dii", and so on. The same applies for Nikon models, and most other major product names 10 and below.

Of course, if Canon makes it up to Mark XI and beyond, they may switch back to Japanese. It's not 100%, but especially in digital cameras you'll be hard pressed to find a company that didn't skip "4" in the model series, though in some cases they had one and made it oversees only. The only Lumix camera to have a "4" I can recall is the FZ-4, which was never sold in Japan. There was a Ricoh R4, that's the single modern example I can think of, but then Ricoh never cares about what people think anyway... they do their own thing. Of course Nikon had an F4 film body back in the day.

If marketing get's their hands on it, it will jump to "consumer friendly" numbers like 1, 3, 5 and 7. If the engineers get their say, it will be logical 1,2,3,4,5,6....

The actual body ergonomics haven't changed a great deal, with the biggest difference being the new Fold & Tilt LCD and the appearance of large hot keys beside the screen, that look slightly like the ones on Phase One Digital Backs.

There will also be three accessories at launch:
1. VDSLR Mount System
2. XLR Pro Audio Module
3. 1TB Flash Recording Module

The XLR Pro Audio Module and 1TB Flash Recording Modules are made to connect into the VDSLR Mount System to convert the camera into a fully fledged Video device, changing the form factor into one that Filmmakers are more familiar with.
