But, as mentioned, the Philips is going to run you $12.50 a month, every month, after you purchase it. FitBit is free.

I'm interested in these devices, but I'm waiting to see where they go at this point. I'd probably hop on the FitBit if they beefed up the website more, and perhaps added an iPhone app.

Ryan M

Comments on Philips introduces DirectLife activity monitor / fitness program

how are led's an advantage over the fitbit?

the fitbit has a text lcd.

I don't have either, but this feels like a plug for an inferior product.
the fitbit is clearly better, doesn't have a monthly cost, and looks sleeker

????

dj-kenpo

Comments on Philips introduces DirectLife activity monitor / fitness program

as a employee of a division of philips we were offered to take part in the directlife trial run and so far it had been a good experience. It helps track your progress and shows how you were before and how you should be in the future. When people here started wearign it i thought it was jsut a gimic but so far it has helped motviate me more and keep going to the gym. It’s not just that you lose the online coaching, you lose the ability to upload and look at your data too. Nowhere does DirectLife tell you this; nowhere does Direct Life's website tell you that you're not really buying a monitor, you're buying a monthly service at $150/year. That's a lot of $ for the privilege of seeing how many calories you've burned. Buried deep within the small print is a statement that you can return the monitor within 7 days of receipt--that's before you even have access to the website. Also within the small print: after your initial "free coaching" you're automatically billed...unless you give one month's notice. I would not have bought this if I’d known. I feel like I’ve been had.

Professor

Comments on Philips introduces DirectLife activity monitor / fitness program

I think this is a great addition to my new fitness plan Donald Melanson (author of this post) noted above the $99 price tag. Not bad! You can't put a price-tag on health. Check out my fitness program that would work perfectly with this small (really useful) device.

A USB plug would be nice in today's world of technology.

JackJones
