The G11 has more autofocusing options, whereas the S90 is either center focus or face detect. This is quite limiting for macro shooting IMHO. At any given price point, the laws of economics dictates that as you add additional features you must make the other features less good. So to add HD video and other video capabilities to the G11 means that other characteristics, (eg. lens quality, build quality, etc.) must suffer if Canon is going to keep the price below $500. As it is, because of the addition of the swivel LCD screen, the build quality and functionality of the G11 has already suffered in comparison to the G10. Check it out for yourself side by side. Maybe today’s consumers do not really care, or even know what real quality is, so perhaps they would rather see crappy looking low-end HD video and crappy looking low-end high megapixel photos with blown highlights. Unfortunately, based upon the fact that many of today’s consumers seem to value features over QUALITY and PERFORMANCE, the camera companies keep providing mediocre compromised solutions, much to the frustration of those who value true quality and performance.

CBW003

Comments on Canon PowerShot G11 review roundup

Some have complained that the G10/G11 is too heavy and/or bulky. The heft provides inertia to dampen vibration and to overcome shakiness, thus providing a more stable picture taking platform. The bulk of the G10/G11 is ideal if you want to actually have a good grip on the unit and if you want direct access to critical camera controls without having to use menus. Frankly, I am frustrated that in some ways Canon is dumbing the Powershot G down to appease mass market consumers who do not appreciate what the Powershot potentially is, a discreet fast handling photojournalistic tool capable of grabbing images that may be impossible to capture had a DSLR were pulled out of the bag. I would like Canon to forget the $500 price point, and develop the Powershot G to be the ultimate discreet shooting platform, a tool that would be available to pro photojournalists working in war zones and other high stress areas. Such a camera would be: 6-8 mp and provide clean ISO 3200 images with wide dynamic range, have a weather tight sealed body, an f/2 L quality 28-70 zoom lens, IS, no fragile easily-broken swivel screen, SD video for fast satellite transmission, selector ring (a la S90), fast responsive low-light AF with no assist needed, an informative viewfinder (at least indicating focal point and AF confirmation), built-in wireless/satellite encrypted file transmitter, and it would look like an innocuous all black point-and-shoot in the G10 form factor with its control dials engraved and marked with night glow paint. If it cost $2500, I would probably buy 3 or 4.

CBW003

Comments on Canon PowerShot G11 review roundup

The 20D, 5D and 5D MkII all have 2nd shutter sync, for some as a custom function, you do not have to buy a flash with it featured. If your looking for high end photo’s go out and buy a high end DSLR. I shoot all types of photos from portraits to macro and everything in between. When I am out on a shoot I lug a bag of photo gear that would brake the back of the weak, now I take one DSLR and my Canon G11 as a back up to get the job done. The G11 is a fun loving work horse. I am about to do a shoot with an up and coming fashion model, I will start the job with my G11 to put it to the test, so far the G11 can hold it’s own up against the big DSLR’s. I am a Nikon guy and realy like the Canon G11. It get’s the job done and does it well.
http://www.digitaldesires.net/canon-powershot-g11-good-option-for-photography-enthusiasts.html

wireless phones
