SmartQ 7 Internet Tablet spotted in the wild, priced

We just caught our first glimpse of the SmartQ 7 Internet Tablet a few days ago, and now it's already showing up out and about on display. A few more of the tablet's specs have emerged since our initial gander, including the fact that it'll house a 667MHz Samsung ARM S3C6410 CPU, 128MB of RAM, and 1GB of flash memory. Apparently, a limited number of these bad boys will be available in China in the next two months, and it's expected to run CNY1,289 (about $190).

You mean 666 MHz right? ^^
Nope.
the t stands for tera, It is 66 tera Mhz, it's a super computer
Typo.
That t is supposed to be a 7
Unless this has Flash and full Java support, You might as well just get an iPod touch.
That was no typo, she was just showing off her 1337speek skillz.

i want to get my FN on!
No love for us lefties huh... bad enough that the stylus on my Touch Pro is on the right side with no option to change that :\
Samsung ARM S3C6410 667MHz processor.
I'd like a netbook that size, instead of MID.

it mega-hurts me to think of a number that large, ba dum tish
Dood, that's like a brazillian hurts!
This is great. The more competition there is, the more Nokia will have to drive down their next gen OMAP3 based NITs. That being said, anyone know if there are linux drivers for the GPU in the S3C6410 available? One of those tablets looks like it has the Ubuntu Netbook Remix inteface on there, which means its going to be dog slow unless we have GPU acceleration for Clutter.
Get this out before Jobs & Co do ... !
Very cool.
I love the formfactor. I could see this type of device taking a bite out of the netbook market - for most people they don't do a lot of typing, so what's the point of wasting all that space on a keyboard? As long as it's powerful enough to run the most basic of apps and of course run a good browser these type of device should be very hot... and the price of this one is great.
Unfortunately I don't see this particular device being fast enough, but hopefully competitors see this and also enter this market with better products.
(Hey Apple, are you seeing this?! Where's your tablet-ish PC?)
wouldnt hold my breath . this forn factor has been around for the past 2 years but didnt really take off.
the lack of keyboards on the original umpcs was seen as crippling. even for basic stuff such as commenting or searching the lack of keyboard can become annoying .
@sinjinn
Take an iphone, make it bigger, remove the phone part.
I see your point, and personally I agree with you, but millions of iphone users manage ok with no keyboards, so its hardly like it hasn't taken off...
@sinjinn
UMPCs were never as cheap as $190. If this device has decent performance, with a usable on screen keyboard, I can definitely see it being successful
Lack of keyboard can be annoying? So all those touch screen phone users, especially the ones who text nonstop, are crippled and really should have a physical keyboard? I don't think so, this thing looks awesome. However, the specs do look fairly weak and an ipod touch might be a better bet, who knows I'd like to check this out.
@ SINJINN
While yes, I am being optimistic, sometimes market-forced have to build up enough steam and technology has to advance enough to make a product do-able and accepted by average consumers. With the introduction of the iPhone & iPod Touch, it looks like every other manufacturer is jumping on the touchscreen bandwagon. I think a tablet PC is a perfect evolution of that technology... when Apple came out with the Newton, the technology was way underdeveloped and no consumers knew what to think of the product.
(and this is coming from someone that really is no fan of touchscreens - I personally think the lack of tactile feedback makes using a touchscreen awful, but for surfing the internets, I think it's the bestest way to go)
Megahertz?
Heck, the iPhone isn't much faster than that, and yet I want one.
Anyone know where I can find a list of MIDs like these in America? I'm NOT looking for a smartphone. I just need a wireless tablet for around the house or coffee shop. I been tempted to get an Itouch but I'm not sure how good it will be for browsing Internet.
I'm totally with you on that. I want something small that i can use to check my email and browse some news sites. I don't need a music or video player or a crazy awesome interface. Just wifi and a browser. I have an old palm that lets me do this to some degree but the battery life blows and the browser is not great either.
Gotta question for u guys...
So I just traded in my Mazda RX-8 for a 2006 Cadillac CTS-V and wanted to put a new stereo in it. Looked at those Panasonic and Alpine motorized in-dash DVD players but their touchscreen responsive-ness and price were just horrible. So I dove into the whole Internet media and MID market and right now Archos's 5 &7 series Internet-Media Tablets are the best cuz they support almost all the good file formats/codecs especially h.264 and FLAC and I wanna output such things [along with music videos] to 2 headrest monitors in the back seats. Archos has a couple docks with video [S-Video/Component/HDMI] out capabilities but I also want to control the volume and next/previous track buttons on the steering wheel. How the HELL would I go about doing this? I know Bluetooth A2DP has a profile where u can control playback with a remote but I'm not 2 sure. I definitely wanna go with a setup like this cuz not only can I use the Archos as a GPS and Audio/Video source in the car, but I can use it outta the car as an Internet Media Tablet. Is there any other setup you guys have in your car? Should I wait for some other MID's like such to come into the mainstream market or what? Lemme know-Thanks.
What OS is it running on???

Also featuring a more capacitious battery last time i checked.
SHUT UP!
I think it'd be cool just to have a small screen that you can carry around to write notes in like a notebook. Tablet PCs despite their size still don't compare to the convenience of a typical paper notebook. I've been hoping for an e-reader or a small tablet with a small price point just for that.
