Surprisingly, despite the stunning display on the iMac (and quite nifty new magic mouse), the Acer was a lot more accessible. There was no keyboard or mouse connected and it was fun 'feeling' ones way around the Currys customer demo using the touch screen. The sound quality from the built in speakers was not to shabby either. What is interesting is that the Aspire was positioned a foot or so lower than normal, therefore little effort was required to touch the screen. At normal desk height - and this could be why Apple have yet to go touch, perhaps arm strain would set in within a few minutes?

Either way, a nice all in one, but the new Sony VAIO with touch screen sounds appealing too and adds the extra sexy.

Touché Apple?

Oflife

Comments on Acer's Aspire Z5610 all-in-one spotted in the wild

i'm not sold on the touchscreen desktop idea. Why would i move my hand across that big display, smudging the hell out of it? I can't even imagine doing that for 3-4 hours in a row, no to mention that tapping is less acurate that using the mouse. What if i need to tap the small taskbar icons?

This is probably gonna be just a "feature" worth demoing to friends, but not really used for anything except some casual games.

Bogdan

Comments on Acer's Aspire Z5610 all-in-one spotted in the wild

@Bogdan, having used an iPod Touch extensively, this whole smudge issue is a non issue. It just doesn't matter because the light from the bright display makes the smudges invisible when the device is switched on. Our MacBook Pro screen is very dusty and smudgy (not sure how!) yet the second the screen comes on, the dust and smudges vanish - juz like that! ;)

IMHO, a stylus and fingers are THE most intuitive and speedy manner in which to interact with and be productive with a device. Having owned several Sony Ericsson P9XX series devices - that blended just about every input method ever devised into one - I can say with confidence that it was much much quicker to operate them (input contact names etc), have fun with, be creative with (sketch!) than any of today's devices, including the iPhone, that while robust lacks enough input options to fully exploit it's power and potential.

A touch screen iMac would be an artist and photographer's dream - simply nudge and burn photos with your thumb, not fiddling with a mouse. Even a mighty one.

Just watch what people do with Windows 7, it is going to spawn a lot of creative software and solutions.

Oflife

Comments on Acer's Aspire Z5610 all-in-one spotted in the wild

Does anyone know if this as a VGA out? I've glanced at the spec lists, but can't find any mention of video in or out).

I know VGA is a little (well, a lot) Old Skool, but my wife (a teacher) is looking for some new PCs to replace the existing desktops in the classrooms at her school. These new all in one touch screen PCs look perfect. But, they also need to output VGA to the smartboard projectors. So far, only the MSI all-in-ones fit the bill (the Asus ones only do HDMI).

Cheers.

Richy

Comments on Acer's Aspire Z5610 all-in-one spotted in the wild

Here's a hands on video of the acer aspire z5610: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DCIZbkHinY

Johannes
