But if Apple wants the iPhone to be the phone it is meant to be, they need a network like Verizon's.

As for the Verizon/Motorola "Droid Does" commercials, they are just doing their best to sell you on the Droid because they want it to be the next best thing. I'm sorry, but Droid just doesn't do it for me. If I am going to go with an Android phone, it is going to be the HTC Hero. I think that Motorola is more behind these "Droid Does" commercials than Verizon is. I have a feeling that when the Droid fails to be a true iPhone killer, Verizon will finally cave and agree to Apple's terms. Right now they are too proud of themselves to budge for whatever Apple's terms and conditions may be. Maybe they need another failed attempt at an "iPhone killer" to realize they need the iPhone more than the iPhone needs them right now. CDMA vs GSM isnt a battle that I want to really get into - to me it just comes down to preference. Like say a Lexus vs an Infinity... they both look good...do basically the same things...just in different ways. Its all a matter of preference. If most of the people you know are on Verizon - it makes sense to go with them...IN network calling. But if you have friends and family all over the place..why not go with whatever works best for you and looks good?

I have an iPhone for my personal phone and a Verizon Chocolate 3 as my work phone. [I know right?] and the Chocolate gets HORRIBLE reception compared to my iPhone standing in the middle of a parking lot in Tempe. Granted there are some places where iPhone SUCKS [UoP stadium for example] and the Chocolate has full bars...but I dont find myself at too many Cardinal games...I do find myself at home and work 90% of the time...and both of those places the iPhone has better reception.

Warren

Comments on

I wouldn't call the iphone the best phone!!!!!!! If this was 2007 and the Droid and Pre were battling it out with the iPhone, they would win... but it's 2009 and the iPhone has way more to offer than it did back then. These companies have a lot of catching up to do and I don't see them doing it anytime soon. They really need to step things up in the App Dept in order to beat the iPhone. Really, who are the options for this to go to? Sprint? Hah. Verizon, maybe but that would require developing a completely different iPhone from the rest of the world just for Verizon. I think that would require a significant commitment from Verizon which they don't seem inclined to do at all. That leaves T-Mobile, but, again, that would require a significant redesign of the wireless portions to access T-Mobile's at this time small 3G network.

Sure, AT&T's relationship with Apple seems rocky but AT&T's footprint and frequencies allow them to easily manage one iPhone design that they can ship worldwide which can't be underestimated from a cost and management standpoint.

That said as far as other product lines go I don't think the same case holds true, when Apple starts offering integrated WWAN in their laptops (Which in my opinion is way overdue) or launches a new product line like the mythical tablet I think Verizon has a very good shot but as far as the iPhone goes I think it's going to be AT&T until LTE.

John McKee

Comments on

There will be no iPhone on Verizon until at least 2012. They are rolling out LTE starting teh end of this year yes, but only in data only functionality. hey will still use CDMA as voice. Apple will not create a CDMA iPhone so the only option is to wait until LTE works for data and voice via VOIP which wont happen until 2012 at the earliest. By then all of AT&T's capacity issues will be cleared up and it wont matter anyways.

tdc129

Comments on

Then now make my iPhone plan more attractive..........Adriod is looking better and better......honestly!

Troy

Comments on

I live in Queens NY, as an iPhone user who's been with AT&T for several years now I can say with conviction that I seldomly experience any dropped calls or reception issues so I don't know what my fellow New Yorkers are talking about when they say they constantly have service problems.

swashady85

Comments on

Speaking from my past experience with the Moto RAZR/KRZR, Verizon would probably try to brand the wallpaper with their logo, disable custom ring tones not purchased through the V-Cast-whatever-store, brick jail-breakers, and otherwise extract and discard all that is good about the iPhone.

Nice network, though.
