It has nothing to do with the CPU architecture, or the BIOS. The Commodore 64 was a PC, and continues to be one. The Amiga is a PC. Linux machines (non servers) are also PCs. Likewise a rackmount 16 core x86 machine running Windows Server is sure as hell not a PC. It was only when Apple started deeming their systems to bee too special to be called a PC that suddenly Macs were not PCs. Just like how the iPod Touch is now a hand held gaming device not a PMP.

In the end, people should try to cut through the disingenuous marketing drivel. Apple knows the machines they produce are PCs. Likewise they intentionally blur the line by acting as if PCs only run Windows, when in reality the classification isn't limited by which Operating system they run.

If you want to have a name for a machine that runs Windows, instead of accepting the PC=Windows garbage, how about call it a Windows Computer or Windows Machine.

The funny thing about the Mac vs. PC marketing strategy is that Apple has specifically chosen to target Windows (software) by attacking the hardware platform. Now that they run on virtually identical hardware from a technical perspective, it has muddied the waters. My opinion is that they chose to use the term PC specifically to avoid saying Windows over and over in their marketing (good marketing avoids using the competitors name too much).

RandomGuy

Comments on Amazon spokesperson affirms that Kindle app for Mac is being 'worked on'

By either definition (architecture or personalness), macs are also PCs.

And they don't really bother trying not to say Windows (or 7, Vista, XP, Me, 95, even 2) anymore.

10minutehobo^2

Comments on Amazon spokesperson affirms that Kindle app for Mac is being 'worked on'

This could be interesting.
