I could build a faster sports car for half the price.  You're only paying for the Bugatti logo. The Veyron is a wonderful piece of engineering. Sure you can build a car that is faster for less money, but that car would scare the hell out of you at such speeds, won't be luxurious and would only be designed for aerodynamics... the Veyron is designed to be a piece of art. Reportedly the Veyron isn't scary or hard to drive at 250 mph. That IS impressive.<br><br>Of course, as a race car it's a bit stupid, there are better choices. To me, the Veyron is a bit like the Concorde. The scroll-wheel is probably a magnet, with hall effect sensors nearby allowing the reliable detection of its absolute rotation with no moving parts (apart from the actual wheel).
