The average person does not walk into their local Verizon, Sprint, AT&T or T-Mobile store and ask what processor is in the phone.

If for some reason they do, and the manager at the store has any idea what the processor speed is, the average person will not think there is any discernible difference between the 528Mhz processor in the Eris and the 550Mhz processor in the Droid. I bought an Edge iPhone about 5 months after it was released, so two years ago almost to the day, because it was the only phone that offered web browsing at a reasonable functionality and a reasonable price. There was no such thing as unlimited data plans two and a half years ago. Then the iPhone came out with unlimited data and 100 messages for $20/mo. That was an incredible deal compared to the usual 20 MB for $20/mo. And it really was a revolutionary device because of its interface.

Now lots of phones have similar interfaces, and that price point is nothing to write home about. Of course original iPhone users are interested in something new and cheaper, probably because most of the millions of people that bought iPhones bought it because it was such a new and useful device at a decent price point. No one gave a shit about the logo on the back of it.

I am eagerly awaiting a device that offers the functionality and speed my Edge iPhone has. Droid comes close, but I'm not sure I'm going to jump on it. I didn't jump on the iPhone until halfway through its product cycle ... the 3G was already well rumoured by then. I don't quite see the Droid as being worth the higher price/month of Verizon. I really like the docking feature, though, and the browsing seems pretty good. But I'm still not quite convinced. I'll have to use one first.

All of you kids on here are so eager to jump on anybody for anything. I know you're all growing through puberty and can't control your hormone levels, so you're like menopausal women 24/7, but next time, just don't press the "Add Comment" button so hastily. It's not about "loyalty" to a device or brand ... who gives a crap? It's about making sure we get our money's worth out of a product. I certainly got my money's worth out of my iPhone over the last 2 years. I want that same kind of return if I switch to a new device.

James Sonne

Comments on

All I hope is that this is for AT&T and has a better processor than the G1 (and the Hero and the Cliq and pretty much everything else).
