Olympus E-P2 leaked in the most insignificant of ways
Olympus' E-P1 micro four thirds camera only hit the market a few months ago, but already it seems as if a successor is inching closer to release. A peek at the outfit's official Chinese website shows a panel and link for a "new" E-P2 camera, though it seems as if the page it's listed on isn't quite complete. Still, we're guessing there's a reason of some sort it's listed, but we're still struggling to find the patience required to see this whole thing through.

We cant even fathom the win being packed into this second generation form factor
Exactly. It looks like it would easily fit in my pocket. And I have small pockets.
Will this one have a built in Mic? I think the first one didn't have a built in Mic.
Built-in mic? Ha, I'd settle for a built-in flash.
Built-in flash? Ha, I'd settle for good autofocus during video recording.
E-P1 has two built in mics.
Had to smile at the "...struggling to find the patience required to see this whole thing through." bit, well said...it does sound exasperating...
Possible that E-P1 wasn't quite ready before it was launched...and E-P2 will try and "correct/fill" the gaps...?
Whatever...I wish them luck...
Besides built-in flash and a bit higher-res screen, I wanna think that they'd beef up the auto-focus mechanics, and maybe even 1080p 30fps (or a 720p 24fps).
I think overall, they might make it the "faster" version of E-P1. It's gonna cost so much more though... :((
Build in viewfinder please!!!
And make it cheaper ya think?
Not possible to do a through-the-lens optical viewfinder on micro-four-thirds. You can either get an electronic one, or one that is separate from the actual camera.
A built in EVF would be nice, as would boosting the video capabilities up to that of the Lumix GH1. Then I might buy one as a P&S complement to the GH1 I've just ordered.
I worked in the camera industry from before digital cameras were widely available, and this doesn't surprise me. Olympus used to produce several SLR style models in close succession, with model numbers like this, and then made one more capable of manual adjustments, and the next more automated. If you look back at their older film models, they had the OM-1, OM-2, OM-3, and OM-4. The 1, and 2 were out around the same time, and then the 3, and 4. Later, they had the IS-1, and IS-2, followed a few years later by the IS-3 etc...
I wouldn't be surprised if they was not a replacement, but just a different feature set, at a different price point
Oh, and a flash. You really need a built in flash for something that's going to be used in place of a 'point and shoot'. Something like the one from the GF1 would be good.
In fact, here's hoping the EP2 combines the best bits of the Lumix GF1 and the EP1; with some added 720p60 video.
There, Olympus Marketing Dept., job done. My consultancy fee is in the post...
just got my slr stolen :'(
please please please
Much faster focus
A real codec for the 720p (1080p ?) please and the possibility to have external microphones.
can it remotely fire flash? if not get on it.
As for the rest.
Flashes are much better being external anyway make the rest of the camera good before you stuff half baked solution in the mix
The current screen is fine but more is better.
A view finder would be nice but is not necessary.
