These are Sony ERICSSON phones. Not Sony phones.  Sony Ericsson is a 50-50 joint venture between Sony of Japan and Ericsson of Sweden. Sony Ericsson is its own company, that makes its own decisions. To my knowledge, Sony has not say on day to day activities at Sony Ericsson, and does not approve any phones.
