Atom-powered Cowon W2 leaked, could be crowding in on imaginary tablet territory
If there's one thing we like more than a flesh and blood slate tablet PC, it's one with zero launch specifics or imagery, and hopefully a dearth of specs. Cowon's delivering the former in spades, with the leak of the Atom-powered W2 MID on a Bluetooth.org certification page. Of course, calling it an internet tablet might be reading in a bit much, but it seems a good fit for Cowon's sensibilities and background up against that Atom processor under the hood. We suppose we'll just have to wait around to learn more, but this could be the start of a beautiful rumoring relationship.

right.....
I'm still waiting for a company to release a non-touchscreen atom tablet with a physical keyboard running windows xp...
something like OQO did?
I love that form, something like the Vaio UX running Win 7 or Ubuntu...
Non-touch, Atom tablet with physical keyboard. Erm, wait, I've seen one of those! They call the things, erm... Netbooks! It's gonna be big! :D
Phew, someone got my joke.
I got it. It just wasn't funny.
What Cowon needs, more than Tegra, is something (anything) that besides looking cool actually works.
Cowon don't have all the technology to make tablet Period like iriver they are used to make this little iPod wannabe craps. So I'd your listening please don't
Firstly Learn better english if you're going to comment on this site. Secondly Cowon PMPs are 10X better than anything apple has. Better Video, Way better Audio and Unbelievable codec support compared to apple Ipod. So please Shut up.
Speaking of learning English, didn't our Mr. Miller mean "the latter"?
@Kris
It would seem the market disagrees with you. General consumers don't care about codec support. They want sleek, easy to use devices. So while Cowon players may suit your desires, it's very hard to argue they make a better PMP for the general populous.

Quality is not defined by market share. If it were, then it would follow that Windows is better than OSX.
I love cowon's audio quality, format support and linux compatibility (except for the S9 which has some linux issues). Yet I hate MIDs and the Atom processor on anything other than a netbook. I wish they would have gone with a high end OMAP processor. Being a MID I bet it's going to be huge and not pocket friendly; "That's a deal breaker ladies".
Cowon needs to make a phone out of the S9!
iphone 3gs is still wayyy better
C'mon
u had to say that.........
I can personally say I have never had a problem with a Cowon product and love them to no end. Pushes great sound quality and more formats then you can shake a fist at.
@Plexus: That's just a strange thing to say. I personally own a Cowon S9, and it delivers some of the best audio- and screen/video quality you can get, with very good codec support and many user created interfaces to download (okay, it feels really light which some consider cheap, and it's not perfect). I don't know about their other players, but the D2 seems to be quite popular as well.
Anyway, I don't want to use my smartphone as my PMP because it just doesn't come anywhere near the sound of my S9.. With the BBE+ sound enhancement turned on especially the bass of my $70 headphones changes from "meh, okay for the price I guess" to "wow, that's almost like my father's high-end stereo", and it sounds much clearer too. This device might simply have been ideal, no, perfect for me.. If it had a phone, or at least, in some way, support for mobile internet. But even so, it may come very close, and my phone can serve as a portable WiFi router thingy.
I love Cowon. I'm a bit disappointed in the battery life of iAudio9 than hhat we've got used to but I expect any product that thay release to have the same great features: amazing sound quality, playing all the formats imaginable, a great battery life and all at a decent price and in a good looking package that's easy to use.
Big thumbs up !
"the former"? Or "the latter"?
The only thing I can say is: I tried a cowon MP3 s9, the sound is freaking fantastic!!! I can never put on the highest volume. looking foward for more cowon products. now, you combine it with bose on-ear headphones... Cowon rocks!!!!
