TAG Heuer Meridiist Lamborghini model announced, snickered at
In the market for an over-priced luxury handset? Do you equate luxury with a brand name, snakeskin, perhaps even a feature phone with all but the barest of "features?" You're in luck! Once again looking to give Vertu a run for its money, Tag Heuer has upped the ante with its newest, the Meridiist Automobili Lamborghini. In addition to that world famous 1.9-inch sapphire crystal display, 2 megapixel camera, media player, Bluetooth, and roughly seven hours of talk time, this guy throws the Lamborghini logo into the mix. Available in a limited edition of 1963 (the date that its namesake was first sold), look for it sometime this month at selected TAG Heuer and Lamborghini retailers -- which we're sure you frequent anyways. PR after the break.
TAG Heuer MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini New Luxury Mobile Phone
PARIS, November 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Inspired by the mythic Lamborghini Murcielago, TAG Heuer, the world leader in luxury sports watches and chronographs has teamed up with the famous Italian super sports car manufacturer to create the limited-edition MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini phone.
In tribute to the year Automobili Lamborghini was founded, 1963 pieces of this finely-tuned device will be sold worldwide.
"TAG Heuer has revolutionized first timekeeping and now luxury mobile phone industry by finding technological inspiration in professional motor sports and Grand Tourism cars," said Steve Amstutz, General Manager for TAG Heuer Communication Instruments.
Housed in black titanium carbide coated 316L stainless steel, the design of the MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini phone references the super sports car down to its famed signature on the battery cover - the same as on the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640's V12 engine block. The back of the device is engraved with its limited edition number while the keyboard is customized with Automobili Lamborghini's trademark Taurus bull on the steel central button.
The MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini phone is luxuriously crafted and detailed, marrying the most prestigious materials and advanced components in the watchmaking and automotive worlds. The display is made from 60.5 carats of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Its battery life is unrivalled and offers a seven hours talk time or 28 days standby power.
"The MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini phone epitomizes TAG Heuer consistency in inspiring and framing its diversification, combining technology and design, and partnering with the best sports car brands. We are very proud of this new partnership with such a great brand as Lamborghini" added Jean-Christophe Babin, President & CEO of the TAG Heuer Group.
The excellence of the finished product is guaranteed through the involvement of the TAG Heuer communication instrument's licensee ModeLabs Group who provided its expertise and know how in the development and the manufacturing of exclusive tailor made handsets.

Holy Smily!
How thick in that thing?
- I know, I know... That's What She Said!
LOL
thats NOT what she said!!
doubles as a vibrator
PHAT! Literally...
@Whitecollarcriminal:
Even for that use, an iphone rounded chrome edge should do a better job...
pleases tell me that's your photoshop job engadget and not theirs.
What? It has everything a good design should have...
Outer Glow... check
Lens Flare... check
Faux Surface Reflection (done incorrectly)... check
Comic Sans Typeface...
Ohhh... I see. No Comic Sans.
@DC Mike ITs ok, you can substitute any of the Brush Scripts for comic sans, as they have done here and still get that same horrific look.
the front of the car.
where is that exactly?
Tag Heuer = OVER
This falls right into line with the sorry decline of quality in their watch line. Tacky and shoddily constructed. Tag has become just another brand to be licensed to schlock purveyors, like many once-respected names.
sweet man. im gonna go get in line for this one. i always wanted a brick phone
You have a typo.
"sweet man. im gonna go get in line for this one. i always wanted a pbrick phone"
There...fixed it for ya.
Thanks, Engadget...can't even allow a < strike > tag, can ya? :-/
What was it they say about fools & their money?
no snapdragon = fail.
that's actual size.
When they said "make us a Lamborghini phone" they thought it was supposed to be one.
All it's missing are the wheels.
Those cost extra.
1.9 inch, that's so tiny...
That's what she said.
in for 1,964 of them
Who buys this useless shit?
Honesty an HTC or iPhone is infinitely more luxurious than that useless piece of garbage. If you want TAG Heuer, buy a watch.
The build quality appears dodgy at best. Look at how poorly that 2 key lines up. I demand quality and precision, not some shoddily thrown together pile of garbage. Whoever at Lamborghini allowed this atrocity should be fired and never allowed to work in any field again - I wouldn't even trust him to scrub toilets or push a broom.
Looks kinda like that old Nokia that I used to throw around... But maybe with a shiny coating instead.
That's what I was thinking. I could make replicas of this vintage phone in my garage. Heckofalot easier than reproducing a decent Rolex.
Or you could get an SUV with whale penis leather!

looks like a phaser from Star Trek TNG.
When I buy a Lamborghini branded phone, I expect it to be blaaaaazzzzzing fast!
- Blazing fast internet
- Blazing fast phone calls (Dont ask me how)
- Blazing fast SMS (Again...)
- Blazing fast video & music (And again...)
It should be anything but this piece of junk -_-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6TPsCRmPXI
Blazing fast texting.
What surprises me even more is the fact that are people buying this crap, especially in 3rd world countries.
it is true, i snickered at the picture
This is a premium phone? Why does it look like a Nokia from 2003? It's a piece of crap dumbphone with lousy build quality, and it's a huge, chunky brick at that! It's gonna make a noticeable bulge in any pocket you put it in, your suit's gonna have to be let out, and it won't even dock in a Lamborghini, so there is no point to the cobranding. TAG, you're sh*t.
My goodness, I think the actual Lamborghini is skinnier than that phone.
What's up with that display on the top?!
Ugly + small screen + no features = pointless.
Call me nuts, but I want this one! Just because it's Lamborghini & TAG Heuer...
Besides, not everyone wants a multi-functional phone. Imagine being in Milan at a fashion show and pulling out one of your N900 or iPhone/WM Phone(which everyone owns these days). Mind you, they're all the best phones in my eye. But, not when you're somewhere snazzy(where the book is indeed judged by it cover). Just being practical(Ironic, I know)...
Enough said!
Alright, you WIN!
Yeah, yeah, -1, yeah.
guys! chill, this thing is the real deal! check this out: see those little holes in the side? well if you blow into one, air comes out the other.
does anyone ever buy these luxury branded phones?
Hey, it's well worth the money. It doubles as a flotation device. Besides, if you can afford the car you can afford to hire someone to carry your phone around.
Yeah, not to sound like I'm on the 'hate it' bandwagon but this thing appears about 5 years too late. Looks a bit like my old Nokia 6110 has had a case makeover with black and silver and been macho branded with tacky labels. The above was right; TAG is so over and we all know who drives Lamborgini's (a hint: wankers with small penis's...but stupid amounts so money to spend on tacky things).
When you have $100 disposable Go Phones from Samsung with QUERTY keyboards and Internet connectivity why would this even be an option?
I look forward to someday buying one of these on eBay for 10 bucks plus shipping. It will look good on my desk.
Press the Lamborghini button for instant paper-weight mode...
Tag... Look, I've been buying your watches for a number of years now and this is just out of character for you. You wanna make a Lambo watch, fine... But a phone!!!!
You know, I think this would have been ridiculously cool if it had been released before the first clamshell cellphone was made.
I'm far from rich. But man you just sound like a bitter poor guy.
