What is XBOX 360 response do all this?
XBOX360 response? Just picture Nelson from the Simpsons pointing at that red disc that PS3 noobs have to insert, and letting out a big "HAH HAHHHHHHHHHH!"

What's so bad about putting a disc in to stream?
Last I checked, in order to play a game, dvd, or bluray, I had to get up, walk over to the PS3, and insert the disc?

anyone know if this will ever be available for people across the pond? i would love to stream movies to my ps3 in spain.
the disc is temporary, so this is a trivial argument. i'm far more interested in the UI. since netflix uses the xbox ui, i doubt we will see that on the ps3. as someone who owns both, i think the ps3 ui is pretty shameful in comparison, and i hope they tried to do something better. it would be nice to watch netflix without a leaf blower in the room.

During the HD DVD/BR wars, people on the BR side used as one of their main arguments that since HD DVD did not have the capacity of BR, if you were watching TV shows on HD DVD it would be such a pain to walk across the room to swap disks, while with BR you would not need to change disks as often.
PS3 fans like to bring up the fact that while playing games like Forza 3 or the upcoming FF on the 360, you will need to get up and change disks, while GT5 and FF for the PS3 will ship on only one disk.
But now, when you want to watch a movie using Netflix on a PS3, walking to the player and swapping disks is not a big deal? If changing disks is such a problem with the 360, then wouldn't it be better to use the 360, as you don't need a disk at all, and therefore no laborous 5" journeys across the room to put a disk in the machine?
@nohone changing in the middle of a game or movie is a way different scenario than putting a disc in once and pressing play
@NohOne: Forza 3 installs disc 2...if you DID need to put in another disc to play another map or get another car it would suck ass....
but that install ONLY works on models with a HDD...meaning Disc 2 is USELESS if you have an Arcade model...
I'de rather have to put a disk in than pay for Xbox live gold just to get movies that i am already paying netflix for over a connection i am already paying the cable company for on an xbox i already paid for.
If this means HD... FINALLY... from netflix (no xbox yet so SD was all I was getting) you will see one happy PS3 owner.. except... my bluray drive on my PS3 stopped reading discs... Looks like I'll still be waiting :(
I'd rather pay for Xbox live Gold than use the PS3's excuse of an online experience and UI. Only haters and fanboys could spin having to get up and put a disk in as being better than not having to. While you search for your disk or hope your child or pet hasn't decided to use it as a toy I will be sitting back watching Netflix with no disk in sight.

Nobody said putting a disc in was better than not putting a disc in. What myself and Raptor are getting at is this:
The act of putting a disc in isn't that big of a deal. It is done all the time whenever you want to play anything from optical media. Raptor's point is that on top of paying for a console, broadband connection, and Netflix subscription, in order to do Netflix on an Xbox, the live membership carries a fee too.
I don't get why everyone has a problem paying $50 a year for XBL. I spend like $6 a day at Dunkin Donuts and $0.13 a day ($50 / 365) on XBL, and I get way more enjoyment from playing games than drinking coffee. And yes I play XBL every day, so I don't see how using those 13 pennies left over in my pocket from coffee every day is such a big deal.
No, I do not think that putting a disk into the player to watch a movie on netflix is that big of a deal. However, there was a number of people who were very vocal and made a big deal out of needing to go to the player to put in a new disk with HD DVD or some games. To those people, if 2 is worse than 1, isn't 1 worse than 0? If, after watching 3 hours of TV show, getting up to change the disk to watch another 3 hours made HD DVD useless, than why not make the leap to being completely lazy and not need any disk. Just press the button on the 360 remote, push a couple buttons, and you are done.

I received a notice as well for the same delivery date. While I currently use a laptop as my HTPC, it will be a nice option to use the PS3 as well.
aw man; when I went to Netflix's site they only asked for my email to notify me when they would be doing this... I didn't get anything yet :(

Can't wait until it is an app on XMB. Until then, I'll stick with my 360... no changing discs for me. (Just a loud-ass console.)
For me the biggest deal about having the native app instead of the disc is that a native app is required to be used via wifi on the psp. I am about to buy a PSP GO, I look forward to netflix streaming on the go via wifi, there is no other pocketable device that can do that...

I know it doesn't do high def, but I actually have my Wii hooked up to an old tube TV, so that would be just fine for me.
I hope this works well with the PSP via remote play!

Like I posted above we will have to wait till the software release for remote play on the PSP.
if VidZone(only in UK so I'm not sure if it does or not) allows access via RemotePlay then its a CHANCE Netflix might as well....but I'm not holding my breath

Got my notice today too! I'll play with the new disc; understand that the video isn't 1080i or p quality as it is with the Roku settop box which comes in SD/HD and HD-XR flavors. A friend who has the Roku says that more features are coming with that delivery method. Wonder what features are in store for PS3 and X-Box?

Yeah, except that you actually have to REQUEST that they send out the disc for your PS3. How many people ever actually asked for an AOL CD.
Oh.... I actually have! They make great coasters, table top game discs, throwing toys or decorative art. All you had to do was call them up and ask for one. It was better when they had 3.5" floppies though because you could always erase them and put your own stuff on there, but the CDs were great fun.
yes, AOL was initially send on request, then later they was included with some products...
I just got my email notification too. I have to say that I am not a big fan of having to use a disk to watch netflix. The 360 pulls this off with no disk and it doesn't matter what I have in the system tray (game, dvd, cd) I can still watch netflix. It's a silly inconvenience but an inconvenience none-the-less.
