PSA: Sears charging $50 less for new DROID activations than Verizon
If you walk into a Verizon store today and pick up a DROID, you'll be out $300 (before tax) out of pocket, then you'll twiddle your thumbs for a few weeks while you wait for some mysterious PO box in Texas to send you your $100 rebate on a debit card. Wouldn't you rather just pay $200 upfront? Or better yet, $150? Sears -- which, we have to admit, we didn't know sold phones -- is charging just $150 without a rebate for the DROID today, a full $50 less than Big Red proper with rebate. We don't know how good these guys are with customer service (Simplexity is running the store on Sears' behalf, it seems), but truth be told, we can deal with a little incompetency for $50.

Yeah, you have to be a NEW VZW customer though.
Actually that is powered by Letstalk.com (sme for walmart)
go to www.letstalk.com
You can get the Droid for $149.99 for new or upgrade.
http://www.letstalk.com/droid-by-motorola-verizon-wireless
The price for New Line shwos as $299.99 but when you click "See price" you out your zip code, then you get the $149.99 price. Plus if you use their Checkout Coupon you get $30.00 off. So, Droid = 119.99
@tikiteko: Where did you find that coupon. I can't see it online.
wow $60 for 900 mins? What a rip off. TMO has unlimited for that price and has more Android devices.
It is a pop-up. When you enter your zip code it appears. You may want to allow pop-ups just a bit for the site. Then turn it on back again. I have the higest level of security with Kaspersky and all the Firefox plug ins and the pop-ups are benign. I have known the site for long and they are good guys.
Thats a nice find, too bad I haven't hit the lottery to afford those exorbitant Monthly plans
As a business customer I walked in and out with only $99 out of pocket for the device. Needed no mail-in-rebates or anything. Direct from Verizon.
feeling like the droid is the second PRE
Nice find!
Just checked - Letstalk.com has the same price.
http://www.letstalk.com/popups/pricetoolow.htm?prId=35921
Both wirefly and letstalk.com have it for $149.99
But to get that price you have to subscribe to the $59.99 voice plans. Something you might wanna think about
$180 if you are just wanting a contract extension. $20 isn't a bad save.
It's $20 saved + you don't have to deal with rebates + less taxes to pay
I think Sears took this down...I don't see anything on the page after the read link
nm...it was my adblock plus
Wow - poor Palm ... and everyone else.
Care to Explain?
I've been drooling for the Pre since the initial announcement and eagerly waiting for my ATT contract to expire in Jan. But I have to admit, this Droid phone is making my decision harder. I feel guilty even thinking about getting this over the Pre - kinda like having an affair while my wife is 7-month pregnant...
...my wife is only 5 months pregnant, and I want a new phone too.....
I have mine.. 249 at the VZW store. Mail in rebate will make it $149.. that's going out today by the way. The girl, who was very nice and very hot.. said I would have it in 2 weeks. We'll see.
This Droid is nicer than you think it is
Now.. back to my Droid!
You get that numba?
With the phone he got HIS number. Hers, not so much.
yeah, you gave her a 30$ commission and in return she gave you a handshake and a "come back and see me" because she wants more of your money, not because she wants to hear about your awesome new linux rig.
Hmmmmm, exactly which store was that?
Awww, way to crash his dreams of getting married guys ....
You know that "hot" in Geek means: "She at least talked to me"
HA that is so true
she talked to me.... ha
You'll acutuall y have a chance if you don't give them money (tips) but you need a steady hand, poker face and reinforced underwear (to conceal woody)
Wirefly appears to have the same deal -- $149.
Simplexity runs Best Buy's online cell phone sales, too, as the sites are identical. I think BB's site is still selling it for $200 though..
anyone notice the "see the vz navigator demo" link lol
hey kvandivo, what do you mean contract extension? I want this phone soo bad but since my 2 year contract isn't up im not sure its gonna happen :/. But what do you mean by contract extension.
@Brandon:
Not my words (contract extension). That's what the website says. At the top there's a link to "already have verizon?". Takes you to a page where you can pay $180 to get it. Don't know the fine print on it. Don't know if you have to be in months 23-24.. or what the deal is. Doesn't apply to me so I didn't do the research. Good luck.
If your plan is higher than $50/month and you were registered to myVerizon, you are eligible for an annual upgrade. your contract will be extended (or renewed)
Is this online only or can you walk into a store and do it - I don't recall seeing any cell phone kiosks at sears.
letstalk.com has same pricing but both will cost you an activation fee ... verizon website is offering for $200 with no activation and instant discount and free overnight shipping .. at least today they are
What I find shocking is that you have to pay an activation fee! In the UK you buy a phone, you put the SIM card in, you go, no extra fees, nothing. They really do try and sting your as much as possible don't they!
I tried adding it from the verizon site and it adds $35 activation.
weird .. if you add through the 'droid' interface from main page seems to add $35 fee .. but if you go through normal interface and add a plan and select the phone from the list then it does not add the $35 fee.
try from here:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=5069
@Tim Brown, yeah but then you have to live in the UK. I'll take the $35 activation fee :-p
@Alex !, with Verizon, you have to pay activation on new lines and not upgrades/renewals.
@letstalk
The retail value of this purchase is $549.99 -- Your discounted price is $149.99.
**Verizon Wireless will bill you $35.00 for activation on your first bill ,
and $69.98 per month (plus taxes & fees) each subsequent month.
@JugHead looks like vzw offering free activation and free overnight shipping even on new accts this weekend.
Sears doesn't sell phones, Simplexity sells phones. If you find a company selling phones online, chances are it's powered by Simplexity. Even if it's somebody like Best Buy or Radio Shack that sells them in their stores.
Does this require a data plan ? Seems like it does not ? not clear to me.
why would you even think about getting a smart phone without a data plan?! and don't pull that 'i
I need to know too. I have my fingers crossed that it doesn't require 3G. I just want basic phone service, and to use the Wifi in my office and home.
.. apparently engadget comments hate less-than symbols... so much for emo ascii hearts :(
i mean... :`(````
It looks like you do need to sign up for the data plan, but I remember when I bought my Motorola Q from Verizon years ago (still using it ಠ_ಠ), you could get a discount up front for signing up for the data plan, then immediately canceling it.
For me, data plan= waste of money when I'm always surrounded by wifi.
I believe you can still omit the data plan with all verizon smartphones. There is not an option on the site, but if you call up and bitch out a rep, they will give you an option to use "pay as you go data" which is like 1.99/mb -- that's what i just did on my sammy i760 i activated ~4 days ago.
Also check out WireFly they have the Droid for $150 with no rebates or anything. The Eris is going for $70. Let's Talk has the Eris for an even better $50 with no rebates as well which is pretty sweet.
Discount rack already? lol.
