When you connect an iPhone to an "incompatible" device, you get the nag screen, suggesting you turn on Airplane Mode. You dismiss it, and that's that. It does NOT come back on its own, ever, unless you remove the iPhone and place it back on the dock.

Obviously Americans would avoid the DAB models and get the WiFi models (I think they are usually model "3").
